Skinners Sprint Micra

Everything put back together

Been out for a few runs and recorded the AFR @ various rpm and loads... Level to medium climbs have an AFR of around 13 flat out so happy with that but under load on a climb (like those the car competes on) the AFR is a stead 10.3 so work to be done jetting/altering the needle me thinks.

I'm no expert but from what I've been reading most people get maximum power around the 12.5:1 mark.

I was getting 10.0:1 when I had the 1.55 main jets now with the 1.35 jets I'm getting around 12.3:1

Next step for me is a dynojet needle kit (if I can find one)

Cheers bud, I had made a note of your jet sizes from another thread, I'd be happy with a 12.5 AFR for sure, I've found a few dynojet sets but unfortunately all were from the states and with shipping a bit dear! There must be a uk stockist somewhere!

you could do with a camera mounted in the engine bay paul, pointing at 1 of the carbs, to log how the variable venturi,s are responding under load, like if you,re getting 13:1 accelerating on the flat, but 10:1 uphill, then it sounds like there is too much damping ?

Hi Frank I see what you mean the spring is too stiff so the slide isn't letting enough air in under load?

Could I just shorten the springs overall length?

if your a/f/r,s are ok on the flat paul, i would guess you just need to refine the damping eh, on the old SU,s it was down to the oil viscosity and spring iirc, but your bike carbs might have vacuum galleries for damping ? (hence the rubber diaphragm)

Also a thing to take into consideration is you don't have any load advance on your timing. With the dizzy you only get a 2D ignition map.

[Edit] just to point out the timing won't affect the true afr (inlet side) but the o2 sensor is post combistion so will measure un-used oxygen. If you advance the timing you start the combustion process sooner and more Oxygen will get used up giving a leaner afr at the sensor

the ignition timing appears to rely heavily on injector pulsewidth/duration eh (injectors that you dont have paul :) ) maybe the ecu runs a very crude 3D map in your case paul ? (a data log would be interesting mate ;))

Once the fueling sorted il have to get the datascan plugged in & working eh Frank.. iv not got hold of the software yet, ive got that link you sent me to try a few different free ones out

Took the car out with the Yoko's on to see what they are like... sticky is the answer! ;)

GRP bonnets been on & fitted with the bonnet catchs cut out before it goes to the body shop... waiting on a different vent to arrive to decide which one to use:

What tyres you on Paul 48rs? I've got a set of soft compound but never got to use them as I bust the suspension before I got chance!

Yeh AO48r's mate... Medium compound as I'm hoping they will last a little longer! Pressure is a bit high in the for the moment...

Have you managed to sort the shock out?

Yeah all sorted now, caster/camber set up next and more weight coming out, like the look of your airbox, you still got brake servo in standard place? Trying to get a ss airbox in place without moving the servo really, be nice to have fancy pedal box etc but a lot of dough!

Good to hear, best bit about chucking weight is its normally free :)

Yeh the brake servo is in the factory fitting just the master cylinder is bigger bore with the pipes in a slightly different arrangement, its close but theres still a bit of room between everything

Put a pic of your airbox up when it's in place mate, I know your intake is different as I'm using bonnet naca feed with in line filter (maybe) but still be good to see how it sits as your on carbs too mate

Theres a pic on post #452 bud just up the page, thats everything in place im going to have the bonnet scoop right over the top of the filter ^^^^ :)

Is that going to ram out of the bonnet then? Done a nice job there, how have you secured it all, as my carbs are only on with silicone tubing and clamps, wouldn't really want to add weight to that fixing, have you secured the box and got rubbers round the carb inlets? Deffo next on the list now!

Thats the idea mate it will get the coldest air possible then i hope, its secured buy rubbers i cut & put around the intake trumpets.. they are a tight fit to the airbox, theres naff all weight in the airbox itself:) :

Looks smart, just saved a copy of the image! You gonna be able make it over for PPC in may? Love to see your motor, although it'd spank mine so stay over there!

No probs mate if you need any measurements or anything jsut shout, im just looking at costs at the minute it would be about £400 just to get off and back onto the island (only one boat company so they have the monopoly  !) Not sure i'd be that quick Dave i've seen you around Oulton!

Ha, you only saw me fall off, I wish the type r session video made it, that was a brilliant drive/badger! Stupid cheapo camera!

Ha ha yeah it was close, drove like a **** that lap though, cold tyres, full of cockyness and my big bro in the car, completely missed the braking point! Can't do Oulton without falling off though! Good job there's some run offs! It was close though - inches!

tis a gr8 technical track and had a fair share of bum-clenching over steer near-offs, especially when its greasy.
that fast RH Druids Corner always scares the heck out me especially if wet/greasy cos dunno if the car will under steer onto the grass too fast and towards the outside barrier or over steer onto the grass towards the barrier, don;t want either. in the hot dry tis alot better but still hairy.

the fast off-camber down slope Old Hall 1st corner is also challenging and hairy in wet.

luv the 180 cambered hairpin where she just grips.
dropping down last corner Deer Leap feeling my breakfast sink is always awesome and makes me -> :D

u got any clips on utube?

Only the lap I came off, I brought a cheap hd recorder that worked great all day, then decided to overwrite data on way home as the motion detector kicked in and started loop recording! Had a brilliant 15 mins of bagging a type r too!

oh thats a shame. prob turn that feature off next time.
yea even with the few greasy skiddy action I overtook afew of me m8s civics and few other, especially once it was dry n warm n tyres got grippy I was flying lol

Bonnets at the body shop for fitting and spraying so I've had the carbs off for a once over. Nice and clean inside, measured the jets (they are stamped #115) all coming in at a 1.5mm I.D... I'm guessing that's what the 15 stands for?! So hopefully the #135 jets.. 1.35I.D? Should help get the AFR's in order :)

image_zps56e1e941.jpg

#115 should be 1.15mm i think paul, maybe they were bored out with a 1.5mm drill ?

I was wondering Frank they were "jetted to suit the spec" by BoggBrothers so your right just drilled out. New jets should be here Monday, so if the 135's are a bit lean I can open then out a little :)

Going to try and mount my camera on the strut brave as well to record the diaphragm/slide opening

Sweet!

I had 135 as standard with my carbs when I bought them, thought they were leaning on top end so drilled them out, now I have O2 sensitive I realise I was going in totally wrong direction !! Lol

Whoops easy done mate, was it the valve bounce in the end? £18 for a new set isn't bad at all

Mines running low 10's / mid 9's at the minute two bud, to be honest you don't need a wideband it you can smell the fuel lol

Haha, same as, well my neighbour comes out and tells me it stinks,.....and it's noisy.....and there a mess outside.....and......you get the picture

Think mine will get opened out a little but I need a smaller pilot jet aswell. Without having my own rolling road its a case of trial and error with educated guesstimation along the way. Really want to find a dynojet needle kit aswell.
