Na sorry mate I've only got/used the lightened stock flywheel but kris/sloarice is useing one and it seemed ok when I've been in the car. But I think the money to flywheel weight reduction of the stock flywheel I don't think you can beat the stock lightened flywheel.

Agreed, but its the quality of the JUN thats tempting me, supposedly 200% stronger than stock. Huum I'll have to think about it, I'll ask Solarice about his too. How much have you succesfully skimmed yours down too? I know Franks is at 4KG!

Aaah sorry Frank! So what do you think? Is it worth the JUN because of the extra quality? Or should I just attempt to skim the stock.

By the way Micras do you have any experience with the JUN gear? (flywheels) Im debating wether or not to get the Ultra light 3.5KG flywheel of them.

Anyone else with experience of their goods?

hey. i'm running JUNs ultralight flywheel here. overall it costed me about £450 to buy from japan, ship to uk, go through customs tax, and deliver via parcelforce.

it weighs 3.6kg compared to the stock 8.4kg. totally transforms engine response towards a ducatti than an ocean liner
840j..jpg 841i..jpg
849o..jpg

idles the same as standard. as with any lightened flywheel just keep in mind there'll be less inertia therefore easier to stall when setting off but you quickly relearn how to manage it.

highly recommend it if you can afford it

That's why I am still on a steel flywheel that weights around 6kgs, 9.2kgs with clutch installed. I've not gone for anything lighter yet but I wanted something which would help to offset the Helix paddle clutch, because they're either on or off. It's definately more eagre through the gears, is tollerable in town and when you want to get away from a standing start it's got enough inertia to pull off pretty fiercely, especially with the LSD's help. I am sure I will probably opt for something lighter in the future for ultimate acceleration but I will wait for some more power yet ;)

Hey thanks matey! Didnt realise you had the flywheel. When did you get it fitted? Huum Jesse Streeters quoted me around £350 delivered.

Thats what I was hoping to be able to feel a big difference at that price. Im definately thinking hard about it, especially given that the block is out at the moe.

I know what you mean. I dont have any exceptional power (as of yet (Y) )but I want to throw as much into the car as possible whilst its off the road. I'll never find the time when she becomes my daily. :(

i got it back in march 2009 while i was rebuilding pollymobile II (my blog post #27)
i thought that any mod that i was thinking of doing, it would inevitably happen eventually so just did it while the engine was out being rebuilt.
thats a pretty good price for a jun ultra light
i'm running stock ebay clutch here and drives normal with no slip at 92bhp here.
as lowrider says the paddle type clutch is prob abit more aggressive and trickier to use in towns with such a lightweight

That was my next question. Was'nt sure how it would cope with a stock clutch, just fitted a LUK clutch so fingers crossed given what youve said it will be ok.

Thanks for the info guys, I think I will go with the JUN flywheel but maybe next month, failing that it'l be a skim of the original.

Just spoke to Jesse again, the quote is delivered to my house/work place but doesnt include expenses for customs. How does that work by the way? How would you calculate the tax?

the jun flywheel costed £311.59 from PerfectRun
in the customs declaration form attached to the parcel the value of the item was stated at 38900Yen? (cant remember exchange rates back then)
delivery from japan to uk was £69.31
going through customs into uk costed another £96.65, the charge sticker was stuck on the parcel listing the amounts

Ouch! Thanks for the info. Found a duty calculator through google, according to that it will cost a further £110 to go through customs, #######s grr. Seems like insurance costs matter a lot to the overall sum of customs.

Might see if I can claim the VAT back though the business. Otherwise £460 is getting a bit steep really. :(

ouch indeed. bloomin tax. i thought £450 was alota money back then but i thought bah what the heck cos i could afford to splash out and wanted it :p

Works slow at the moe, didnt plan to do so much detailing but now Ive started theres no going back. Its amazing what you can do in short period of time with a wire brush though!

K6PFS' friend Chris Hardman makes very nice CNC'd steel flywheels for much less and comparable weight and he will machine them for any clutch you like, Stock CG13DE, GA16DE, Helix paddle, Tilton paddle etc.

http://cp-msport.co.uk/default.aspx

There's even a 2nd hand lightended flywheel on there for £70, not sure if it's still available or what the weight is, but worth checking out at the very least.

Thanks for the heads up. Ive met Chris before, he picked up a CG13 from me a while back but I didnt realise he did the clutches. I'll give him a ring in the morning. Might have a quick chat about his rear brake conversion kit too!

Thanks Manny, still need to finish brushing all those hard to reach places. Its had a couple of times over with degreaser and then just a wire brush end in a big ass drill. :D To be fair I was pretty nackered after that though.

Slow Progress

Hey again, things have been slow again the last month or so due to work commitments. However the last week Ive managed to get my ass into gear.

Firstly new crossmember got fitted, big thanks go to Ariel for his super service! Did a great job fair play. All thats needed now is some underseal.
IMG00246-20100425-1458.jpg

IMG00247-20100425-1753.jpg

Secondly finished cleaning up the gearbox , looks nice and shiny again now, re-painted the clutch lever and also did all the engine clips that hold the wiring looms in place whilst I was at it.

Gave the engine block a good wire brushing aswell. Overall im very happy with how its all come out. Need to de-grease the engine at least once more before it go's back in though.

Tonight I went gung-ho on the engine bay, got rid of all that nasty cack thats gathered up in there over the years. Feels like Ive made progress now which is always good. Waiting on some new six point sockets to remove the flywheel now. Decided to go down the cheaper root of getting it skimmed instead of forcking out on a JUN Lightened model. Also popping to Telford to get the rocker cover painted up at 'Innovation Bodyworx' on Saturday, so with any luck next week we might finally have another living Micra! :D

Little update;

Superls is kindely lightening a flywheel for me this week.

Innovation was a bit expensive on the quote to spray the cam cover so i'll leave it for now and do it myself in the near future. My artifarty miss's wants to have a go at doing some unique graphic on there! I look forward to that :D

Grinded the bolts that hold the manifold to the mild steel piping of this evening as they were siezed on, thought it be easier to replace them now rather then in the near future when the block's in the way.

Also painted up the water pump mount and the battery tray.

Still looking for a set of headlights if anyone has any... oh and a new radiator too.

Bought a set of revolutions of the bay this evening too, of course cheaper then the seller wanted them to go for so I think I could be being played now :( Anyway heres the pic of them, brand new wrapped in Yokahomas.

Thats all for now, once I get the flywheel I think shes ready to go back in (Y)

Love the Revo's! Whats the specs, are they 4x4 or 100?

I'll join you with a 510, SR20'd and we'll go baiting zetec'd Mk2 Escorts :p

Well todays a bit ####e :( Got my first points (3) for a broken brake cable on the trailer. Feel gutted at the moe, as a plus im still within my first 2years for another 5months. What the chances I get done for a brake light out!

Still I have alloys to look forward to eh.

:D Thanks Martyboy, I will do got enough going on without getting down about it (Y) + I just kept up with a Honda Civic in the stocko K11, ha I think he was a tad surprised, cant help but grin :grinning:

And damn right I cant wait for it!

Update alloys are a deffo, being picked up tomorrow so with any luck will be with me by Monday at the very latest. Engine's almost back together just waiting on the missing piece of the puzzle (and some hoses).

Well I think its fair to say Im in 2 worlds now. :(

As posted on the forum the wheels Ive just recieved arent as stated. There not genuine 'Revolutions' there 'Revolite' copies. Which is a bit of a ####ter.

To be honest I really like them, and the more I walk past them in the garage the more I want to keep them but I just cant justify the price I paid for them and the fact that there not Revo's so there sell-on price is pretty pants. Might try and come to an agreement with the seller, maybe knock a tonne of.. But then again why should I do that? The seller said he only bought them from new a few weeks back so he blatently knew they were copies! grr

What do people think? Here's the trial fit on the run-around K11.

I've experienced MWS (Midland Wheels) "Quality" before. They are cheep wheels.

Having said that they look flipping ace, so as long as you can negotiate some money back from the seller I reckon you are still on to a winner. Stick the 175/50s up as a set and punt them on to a mini owner and you'll probably pay for some sensible tyres as well. :)

This is going to look epic on those. Go on give a a full side or three quarter shot with 'em!

Huum I'll wait to hear back from him Mark, I think your probably right that it could be worth while. Question is can I still run it on this mini fitment? Its only 1.9mm difference is'nt it?

Cant make a fat lot of difference surely... ( he says optimistically)

Oh, I thought you had bought 4x100. I wouldn't fancy forcing anything to fit, thats the sort of thing that leads to broken studs and getting overtaken by your own wheel. The thing with revolution style wheels is that they use sleeve nuts so you could relieve the holes slightly so that they are essentially slotted its only 0.8 per stud after all. It would be tricky to get accurate though, but would probably be ok, just make sure that you have good centre location if the studs aren't doing it.

Check out Wheel Fitment 101.

Thanks for the link Mark. Quite an interesting read. Well that could be an option by the sounds of it. I need to double check the PCD tomorrow as I only did it roughly, I just assumed it was mini fitment from the MWS website as there were no 4x100. Just wish this guy would answer his phone and stop wasting both our time!grr

Quick update:

All the new welds are now sealed.

Finished cleaning all the components (apart from I got lazy and havent bothered with the alternator).

Flywheel arrives tomorrow with any luck. Big thank you to Scott for taking time out to do it for me.

New HT leads are on order - 7mm Magnecor, along with some cv boots. Giving the silicone hoses a miss for now, with any luck Ed will get my stock ones back to me some point within the next two weeks, I'll probably grab a set from the breakers before then.

Now I just have to jog my memory and remember how to put everything back together

Only thing I urgently need to complete the puzzle is some new Spark Plugs. Any suggestions? Should I go with the usual or get some flashy ones?...

As for the wheels well I think I-might-maybe-not sure-but-possibly-keep them :p . I do like the style so I dont think It will do any harm running with them for the time being + Im sure I can make some money shifting my SR alloys. Heres a pic of the 4 and a pic of my gf's dog because I have to fill my blog up with something :p

No progress on the SR recently unfortunately. Im at a stop until the mysterious breaking engine crane is fixed and until the world cup finishes :D

Once the crane's fixed she should be ready to plonk straight in and fire up (fingers crossed).

Meanwhile in the 'Incredible ULK' camp I had a little play with something Ive been wanting to do for a little while now. Its going to take some tweaking to get right but Im hoping to get her looking factory fitted :wasntme: If so I'll attempt to do the same to the SR (one step at a time though eh)

The LX will be changing hands to my other half soon but I definately want to experiment a lot before that time comes :(

Ive also had a change of thought on the suspension set-up of the SR, Im wanting some TEIN coilovers now so my current (unused) set of 60mm lowering springs + rear bilstein shocks are for sale if anyones interested, link to ebay :http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170510481496&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT

Id invest in some new rubber or poly engine mounts whilst it's out as they would have taken a beating at the hands of the learner drivers:)

cute dog....lol

Thanks Mart, has to be done!

Im trying to import some Teins currently have a bid on a set which ends in 2 days, fingers crossed :D

Cant really afford to buy brand new but I think theres some bargains to be had overseas for sure, have you had a look? <---- Yahoo Japan Auctions that is.

Another awesome K11 thread on here! I also laughed at the Maccie D cup on the floor . Is it a Micra thing or a man thing??

First guestimates are 46,000 JPY = £340 , thats still assuming 28KG weight though. I have to wait untill they arrive with Mr Streeter to get an accurate sum.

Either way in the end I dont think I've benefited much from importing a 2nd hand set then I would buying a set in the UK other then your spoilt for choice on them Yahoo auctions (Y)

Thanks matey, it's turning out to be a long thread but not a huge amount of progress :wasntme: eheh.

I'd say a man thing at first but then again I think that could have been the miss's! So it must be a MICRA thing!

Just for the record if anyone else is interested in importing a set of coilies, the auction actually ended at 27500 JPY = £203.68 so a lot cheaper then sets Ive seen in the UK, just those damn delivery costs + tax that raise the price. :(

Managed to get some work done tonight.

Flywheels all fitted, just over 4KG (4.06) (thanks again to Sleeper_SS for skimming it)

Everything re-sealed and fitted, just about ready to go in now

Finally sold my old springs aswell just waiting on the final price of the coilovers! Happy days...
