The 1.3 Turbo Battle####

But I have to learn these things the same way u lot do. I should get bonus point for trying it from there in the first place and then if this works the I get more points for also question ing the oil pressure . so really win win. If I win :s

of all the head I messed with this is the most stubvurn one I have come across.

Let's just hope this gets better. I will consider bearing repair and upgrade. Let's see. Right back on it again. Speak to you guys in a bit.

Do you reckon I should hold out when I run the engine to get the rest of the oil burnt through?

well done for getting that damn grub out, now throw it down into the depths of hell :p

thats alot of oil spewed out the turbine.

now hook the turbo feed into the head, run the engine for few mins to burn all that spewed oil away till it hopefully stops smoking/leaking and recheck the turbines dry and the seals ok. fingers xx

Right so oil out the bum... Gone... The oil pressure change helped. Next issue was the turbo was still smoking with burnt oil smell.

so I noticed the oil is coming from these half circle pieces which are held down by the four big bolts. I tightened... Well I got the spanner on them to check and et voila two were not very tight on the bottom. The smoke appears less but its still getting out down there. What shall we do. Leave it be for now? Take it off and inspect?

You reckon. It don't seem to have shifted. The edges have not even decreased in size. I think the seals are gone or whatever it is I have tightened is not tight enough.

if they are,nt stock injectors, the ecu will struggle to closed loop at low throttle eh chris (it,ll keep hanging rich)
and is the restrictor 2mm ?

here,s mine @ idle chris :)

Right ta :) will do so tomorrow I think. Going to do a mass clean up and start fresh tomorrow I think
Little bit tired and hacked off, so best do it all with a fresh head tomorrow.

There is a wiring issue with the sensor on the AFR. ****.. Another thing to fix haha

Want me to pop down tomorrow? I got my cv fixed, we can try and work out the AFR wiring?

Right just cleaning the house somewhat. Well we have busy haven't we. Shame she is a little smoky. Had a long chat with andy about the efficient engineering, oil, bearing types and tolerances. We also found the correct flow rate for the t2 turbo ... Hmm. Intresting you may say. Would you like to know. Its 1.2 litres a minute. @frank what you think about that. I shall show you the link I found. Frank do you know the oil pressure at the head by any chance?

that flowrate sounds ok chris, mine was just a guess :) and my vid shows about quarter liter/min @ idle maybe ? (2 or 3 times that @ full chat)
and the (warm) pressure on a healthy engine should be about 50psi when revved iirc mate

So a quarter litre a min idle sound about right eh?

imo, yes :) you have to strike a balance between not starving the rest of the engine, and keeping the tubby lubed and cooled eh.
mine has a lot of fresh air blowing onto the turbo, but a scoob that has the turbo confined in the cramped engine bay probably needs more oilflow and water cooling too

I dunno if its same with modern engines, but when I fitted an oil cooler to the spitty I had to uprate the oil relief valve ti cope with the extra capacity?

Very true, I think cooling will be fine for me also. @enuo you agree with about a quarter a min? Me and andy @frank had a chat about the oil choice as well. I am using 5/50 oil full synthetic. Possibility that the turbo is actually leaking due to thin oil?

the oil viscosity will have some effect sure, but only marginally imo.
i think the flowrate will have far more effect personally, i have knocked the pin out of pop rivets and used the shell for a reducer to test flowrates in the past :)

Is what I said, oil viscoscity will be the difference between a weep and no weep, but not pissing out and pissing out alot less
Need to see what restrictor does for flow rate

My vote is actually the gathered affects of oil viscosity x pressure x flow rate. frank you are a genous. I was debating a washer. Then drilled out.

You did indeed. But many opinions are good and you are quite right in the suggestion of this issue. I remember previously that the car always had stained parts. With this new engine... Which is very clean indeed. The channels may be very free causing higher pressures ?

I would like to say that Enuo makes no set in stone suggestions. So he can not be made accountable for anything. Nor does he ever suggest anything lol. Ever.
