Skinners Sprint Micra

Assumsion is the mother of all F'ups as they say.

Playing with the TPS to get a good 4.5 @WOT and noticed the pedal and just pulling the throttle cable have different readings.... Bit odd! A closer look at the carbs and the pedal isn't opening the butterflies fully anymore (always assumed nothing had changed since they had been on and off the car) cable stretched or bracket moved maybe?

Net result now at full open throttle (triple checked) it wasnt pulling well at all, its running lean... 16/17/18 AFR's!! The dash lots must be getting the air they need now!

So the next plans to pop the bigger jets back in and see what the readings are then , looks like the drag racing might have to be moved to Sunday, god knows what it will go like now i actually have WOT

Frank sorry to bother you

Would the change in ignition timing have an impact on AFR's? since im altering when the "burn" happens?
i think you would still get a complete burn paul, so the lambda signals should be unchanged, tho power output will change with ign timing changes.
but the ecu might be reacting to your changes eh ?

I've just been for a blast up the mountain with the TPS unplugged and got the same lean AFR's to rule out the sensor having an impact. It must be the larger volume of air now the throttles working properly :(

Il stick the bigger jets back in the the morning and compare the TPS under load and unplugged to make sure it pulls the timing back to about 20 deg I think

No new records today for me on afraid 15.96 my quickest if the day my own daft fault for having a near full tank!

Swooped the jets out early this morning back to 1.5mm and now have 12.5 - 13 AFR on full throttle so happy with that :)

Highlight of the day was either the 2000bhp funny car or the 600cc mobility scooter :)

That's not Colin furse's one is it?

Sorry, the scooter :)

Ah I'm with you now Ed, I don't think so this one was built by 'garage insanity' a group of guys over here Richard Underwood I think the guys names is. They were hoping to brake a world record with it over the weekend I'm not sure how they got on. It's quicker than s skyline anyway :)

That's him at the drag racing I was at a few weeks ago

Alls running well except the Clearance in the exhaust tunnel at one point is a little tight and may knock on bumps so a little tweak of the exhaust hanger and we should be all good!

Stainless Decat to come in the week

Rev,s pick up a lot lot quicker than they used to, might have been a little strangled with the fast road mani with carbs on it & the cams :) breathing well now

Carnt wait to get it on the road for a run

if you get the rubber exh hangers a bit stiffer, stops a lot of movement.
i pushed bits of rubber in the holes of the mid rubber cat hangers,,,no more knocks :)

Well if you can feel the engine responding to it then it's a worthwhile investment :)
Gives me ideas for mine with the carbs going on in the near future and already had a regrind on the cams...

Seems like I'm onto a winner mate, won't see until its given a good run but it's looking promising!

You turboing the bike carbs?

It's in the pipeline... but I may skip the idea in favour of my other 'standard' ga16 ;)

Effects are usually more noticeable on the edge.
Tempted to go more aggressive on the cams with the carbs on... but low down driveability suffers and as its also a daily :(

I solidified my mounts like this so the box no longer moves about n rattle on the suspension

Ta Paul , yeh my rear exhaust rubbers have jubilee clips round them to keep them solid, the centre hanger is pulling the new exhaust up till its within a few mill of the tunnel I'm just going to extend it down :) nowt worse than rattles and knocks eh

tis so annoying, I have this occasional knock at the rear left which I can't locate.
replaced the drop-links and its still there.
now my cig lighter extension thing is rattling loose.
and my front right indicator occasionally loosens so it flashes quickly until I either blip the throttle to rattle the loose connection or I bash the light with my hand.
the car rattles itself to pieces lol

Not had any chance to work on the car while I've been getting myself back on my feet but did get plenty of time online..... so internet shopping got the best of me & id been looking at upgrading the front suspension.

Full plan over the winter is to take my spare lower arms, weld them up, pollybush them & fit new ball joints.

If all goes to plan Spax coilovers will replace the current dampers / springs (up for sale over the coming weeks) & will be paired with rose top mounts. Mounts are away at the minute so a suitable sleeve can be found to fit the coilovers. This should lower the front down nicely but might require a bit of an arch roll :)
