The 1.3 Turbo Battle####

Co2 argon?
I have also noticed that getting a ground is a nightmare and is always giving me crap. Plus my wirefeed gets caught and get stuck. Also there is no happy medium with the power. Its either high or low. But! We shall learn more as we go along. Also I have found its a Feking nightmare with dirty metal.

I'd imagine it's best to go slightly high with amps and raise the feed to match, but you can go the other way (but put more heat into metal). I've not got an aweful lot of experience with cheap welders thankfully

Well I don't think its the best bit of kit. I can see how it can be improved. When I have the money I will get a proper one. This one will get us on the road at the moment. I even found the angle of the gun made a difference to the weld???

It will do, for equal metal thickness you want it equal angles between the two, but the angle in the direction of travel of the weld should be tilted back so you're pushing the weld along so to speak, maintains a better gas shield and gets slightly better penetration/weld thickness

You should zig zag slightly across your surfaces :) keeping a constant bead of penetration at all times. Tisnt easy without a decent welder
Another thing that'll help especially when outside is turning the gas up :)
If your finding you can't get a happy medium and you have to go higher you'll have to move faster as you blow holes pretty quick.
Upping wire speeds cancels your movement out and you'll still blow holes. I tend to to go lower amps but a higher speed wire and slow movement

I'd be better off showing you rather than explaining

Ta for the help guys. Will be more welding soon so will try your advice. Zig zagging I did come across actually. I really need to get my self an auto visor normal helmets are well annoying .

So in the typical fashion the turbo project may now be facing issue with being ready for jae. Financial.. Damn. My last job bloody gave me a figure of my pay which I should receive today.. My last pay check. They didn't include the holiday taken. Damn them. So basically they have send me 150 as opposed to Feking 800 odd. That was all the money needed really to finish the car. Piss! We shall find a way though.. We always do. God everyone on the MSc is having drama ATM.

Fixed visors make for better welders in the long run
If you can weld with one hand and hold a visor in the other... then when you move onto an auto one you'll pretty dam awesome

You lot are crazy. This turned up a while ago sorry catching up on updates

going through the old engine seeing what the best parts are. Trying to figure out what's the best time to do the turbo feed to the sump is. On car or off car.

MCM did it on car while the engine was hot then did an oil change atraight away after. Maybe do it on car with bo oil in sump and sump loosely bolted on, then remove sump and clean out swarf before refitting?

i would T it into the breather hose on the front of the engine personally chris, you dont need it on the sump with a top-mount :)
yeah I suppose but I got the the kit I may as well use it eh? which pipe you on about. The pipe which connects the head to the block. Plus I would have to cut down the lines no. They must be continually gravity fed?

Haha^^^^^ feck that! The only thing with the top mount oil return pipe that I found was getting a suitable pipe for length and that wouldn't kink. My old turbo kit had an awesome braided return, got lucky that it fitted so well when I bought it

The S shaped black pipe on the right chris ^ and as long as its below the tubby outlet its fine :)
breathers and dipstick tubes have been used for returns np :) (MX5 hks kit for instance)
I think I am happier to return to the sump as I have the all appropriate house length to do so. It is a pain in the arse however. So in the future something may have to change.

They say that the steering wheel becomes very loose after a short time and that sometimes the wheel pop off.
It's a quick solution until I can get a real one.. Would people think they could get a genuine one for 30 odd quid. Naaa. Security measure until I can get the car locked down

A what what?
Detacheable steering wheel boss. Strict garages will require them to be locked in place with a key for an MOT, as the non locking ones aren't E-approved for road use iirc. Looked at one for the spitty but just chose a smaller wheel instead...
