Rat

Found some time for some reciprocating saw/snips & file action this afternoon. Not going to be life changing but must weigh 1lb.Should also prevent some "parachute effect" when you have the window open being as it now has gaping holes instead of the black plastic grills to let the air escape.Have to shove a sponge down there in the winter to keep the heat in..(If it still has a heater system that is  )
Spied a few more lumps that can go while I was there, rear seat belt fixings, tow eye & bit that fixes it to body, various excess fixings and had a nose at the fuel filler fixtures & fittings to the body that may eventually go..

Removed some more unwanted baggage today..Sway bars are gone. One link arm was threaded/rusted on real tight.Draper grips 0.Mole grips & fire.1.Heavy affair they are too..
While the car was in the air I noticed that the heat shields were all still there..now they're not.
Also had another go at the passenger door with the snips & got a fair amount more off.Needed to use the grinder to remove a bit more structure & the remains of the crash bar,but the Wicked witch from the west was in next door (probably filling her fat face with chocolate eggs) so I resisted the temptation.Try tomorrow. Not going to be able to get much more of,it's feeling very flimsy now.Added benefit it's only now held on with 4 bolts & no stay bar :)
Productive day, with what I removed yesterday from behind rear bumper & todays trophys there must be 3lb of bits & bobs gone plus the heavy roll bars..

Another not-so picture friendly baggage removal update..
Considering I bought the car in from the cold to paint stuff I seem to have redeveloped my unhealthy obsession for whiling away the hours chopping bits off.Surprising, every time I go to the car wielding a grinder more unwanted bits show them self.Anyway,I had to buy a new mini grinder after my trusty bosch got ran over so I bought the cheapest I could find in B&Q for £17.50 (Win) & wanted to put it to the test..

Had a go at the right hand exhaust hanger, took off more than is left.It weighs less than the waste with the rubber attached :D That excess captive nut in the rail is now bothering me tho

Other news..One of my colleagues has kinda got the wrong end of the stick
201204103245.jpg

And for the wheel whores this appeared whilst I was out on missions today,I assume for the Corvette which is looking very sad shod in BMW 5 Series alloys at the mo awaiting refurbed wheels..
201204103246.jpg

Finally got round to stripping the white 5 door I was using before tax ran out today.Couple more bits in the morning & she'll be off...
I now have some softer springs to play with, gear selector rods so I can have a go at Franks ghetto gear lever position & the heavy engine support bar to chop lumps off.Engine hardly moves when you remove this...
Panel wise I kept bonnet & wings for a future project & an unlucky tailgate
Could not finish chopping the gate up as the new El cheapo grinder could not cope with the pressure & nearly set itself on fire...Get what you pay for..
Will look better with the lip at the top chopped off, this may remove too much structure so maybe I'll have to dodge something together to support it.Shivved a load off the back with the snips,it's still fairly sturdy unlike my first tailgate attempt where I got a bit carried away
Also need to find a way to fix the top so it does not blow off when you open the window whilst driving, tie wraps no doubt.
Anyway that's the basics of my Freelander style sunny weather tailgate,I'll try to get a better grinder tomorrow to tidy it up a bit..

hardcore strippage here sleeper ss  you,re gonna be well below my 720kg eh
It must be getting close to the end now, other than a few more bits of tin here & there & the mechanical bits left like finishing & fitting the alternator brackets/hubs etc...I'll get the steels put on it soon & get it to the weighbridge & see what we've got...
Another big loss would be the heater system,we stripped one from a breaker back then (for the AC) & it comes to a fair weight...The only thing that stops me is I want the car to be useable in the rain & cold but I did find the fag lighter plug in heater thing & was planning a hot air gun/hairdrier with a series of joined hoses for keeping the windows clear.A mini fan by the matrix might make a bit of heat in the car..Think I'd better experiment with this one before I go ahead..
That bar under the engine seems a lot of metal, think it would be ok to lose half the sides & trim out the middle?Looks like the right angle bits will still be very strong..I was surprised how little the engine moves when you take the bar out.I remember you saying in the blue blog that the front mount does not do much...

201204103266.jpg

Spent too much time last couple of days fannying around with the new tailgate but it's done now.Just need to find some number plate lights. Can hold it up with 1 finger :)
Did manage to shiv a load off the engine support bar tho, impressed with what can be lost.Sides are about 20mm now.By the time you lose the front mount, the thick 100mm-ish panel from underneath & the little very heavy shock absorber thing & bolts I reckon it's lost just under half its weight...Not sure what the shock thing is for or how its removal will affect the ride so will have to see...Car is horrible to drive anyway so doubt it will make much difference but I have a spare bar somewhere..

9 former careful owners + me for a month..Now off with its head
Well plundered, but it's little heart will live on with the bits & pieces robbed for my car
201204123296.jpg

The company fox who lives on dog food & left over sandwiches who make me jump skulking around late at night whilst I'm vandalising my car.He like to show his disdain for any new stuff we leave out by leaving little "deposits" on them.Car interiors are especially popular
201204143327.jpg

Been plugging away at it...Finally got the interior floor stone chipped tonight. The spare wheel well bottom was tatty after removing the tow eye structure,so thought I would give it a "quick" tidy with the filler.Got carried away with it on Sunday night so finished it tonight.
Liking the darkness inside..Going to put a coat of lacquer over it to seal it,easier to keep clean.
Going to try & get a load of bits done this week & see if i can get the shell painted at the weekend..

No dramatic progress, had a quiet one last night but attacked the tray the ECU sits on before I went home.
Tonight I tidied up the sharp edges on the inside of the full tailgate with the grinder & set about the battery tray which is behind the passenger seat.Standard Micra tray fixed with 3 self drillers...
Then painted the front wing & trotted off home :)

Another unlucky Micra :( Started life as a learner car (Dual control bars hidden away under carpet by some dodgy trader no doubt) & 9 loving previous owners.Good news is I now have a set of 14" wheels & trims to play with... & I killed a Fiesta Zetec today whose cambelt had fallen off that donated a set of alloys with good 185x55x14 tyres...

And this little Corsa has gone to be turned into saucepans for crimes against engineering with its hopeless 3 cylinder lawnmower engine, but not before I robbed it of its only useful parts :D

Which are now that weird custardy-yellow colour they use on smart cars cos that was all I could find:confused:

The stricken Fiesta also donated its repeaters..Never liked the pre face Friday afternoon/Monday morning designed items so did some cutting & gluing & now have the original Micra wiring & bulb holder in a Dagenham lamp.Just need to find the tinting spray..

Lil update of the weekends Micra activities..Robbed the rear springs from the blue victim & attacked with the grinder to replace the very hard cut Spax on my car.Had a few attempts & still not happy with the height.Corsa shocks on too...It's back on the ground, let it settle & see how it looks..
& playing with the facelift lights which have grown on me..

bare love for the fox,,,think he is responseable for your latest k11 uprising (or he'd use it for the family of course:) Boi-oing

The facelift victim has been evicted from the Big Brother workshop this morning so I've got to get a wiggle on & get it stripped & gone.Had a go this afternoon in the rain :(
While I was butchering it I took the heater system & firewall padding out for a weight test, surprisingly heavy but I'm still too scared to take the heater out of my car, specially as it's been raining for 2 weeks.(No hosepipes please we're in a drought) Someone suggested looking at heaters for kit cars..another option.
Anyway I like the amount of space created without all the black plastic stuff...
Also removed the pedals & the metalwork that holds up the steering wheel for future projects & the engine & box are just about ready to fall out from underneath..
& the windscreen man's coming tomorrow to cut the front screen out for a sales vehicle & cut the tailgate glass out so I can get a proper template for the perspex for my car.Not sure how this is going to work because of the curve in the tailgate unless I use the really flimsy stuff...
Finally painted & lacquered the stone chip on the floor before going home so I can put what's left of the interior back together & fitted the mirror & petrol flap that I painted on Sunday..The flaps a different shade & I melted the drivers mirror with the heat lamp whilst making tea

He takes full advantage of the facilities, hard to make picture out but this is the roof of my silver Civic minus the sunroof with a quilt on top right next to the Rat front bumper he has done a mingin poo on that he sleeps in like a fox hammock. So I will be having a flea epidemic if the Civic ever gets done

Finally started the paint on the rear bumper & drivers side, not much to do except dig on rear arch & remove repeater I glued in..
Corsa shocks & mini-Micra springs have settled nicely now,top of tyre level with top of arch & I've doctored the blue cars (RIP) front legs so comfort awaits. Also got the panhard bar for minor adjustment.Came off with the bushes real easy, maybe where I've been knocking the car around while it was getting stripped.
Screen man came & removed screen & tailgate glass so now have template at last..
& the blue shell is gone.Undid all the engine & cradle on the truck & the crane lifted the waste away for me leaving an 80k 1.0cc coilpack engine, gearbox, hubs etc. if anyone needs anything..

Not been much to show..little jobs but finally got the number plate lights fitted on the summer tailgate..& attacked the bonnet & ripped out the inner structure.Second one I've done, the first attempt (ages ago) was very flimsy & only had 2 bonnet pins in the middle & the G Force lifted the front & put it through the windscreen  Has 4 pins now so happy days..
Repaired the scrapes in the back bumper & tried to save the expensive lacquer by using normal lacquer for the first coat..Bad move.Looks like it's got a skin complaint & has dried shiny so got to do again :(
And dug out the front bumper that was probably the cause of me disappearing from here for 2 years & slapped some more filler in it & spent a happy hour rubbing it down..I've now got a cough but It's close to being ready for a gallon of filler-primer at last

Drivers side is painted & as it rains pretty much every day & is is cold I've refitted the "winter" tailgate.
Also finally finished the front bumper  Lot of messing around but I'm pleased.Just need to see if I can shiv some stuff out of the back to lighten it up a bit after all the filler that's been slapped in
Went to get more satin lacquer & they'd run out of the one I used previously (Spies-Hecker) which was £40 a litre,so I tried the HB Body one at £20 a litre. No difference, wish I'd have known about it before.

Bought some el-cheapo mesh from the £1 shop & used it in the big hole in the bumper to replace the Escort MK6 plastic one I used before. Was fiddly to fit, dobs of filler to hold quickly then bead of seam sealer...
And shivved half a pound of plastic reinforcing from the back & cut the 2 metal fixing brackets in half saving another 1lb..
Quickly put the front of the car back together, going to alter the top grill which is too high & fit the Laguna splitter tomorrow..

WARNING ...SLEEPER CAMP INTRUSION!!!!!

So later on that thursday my pursuasive starlet turbo fiend sorry friend drags me along in his slip stream to the weekly croydon meet. along with well maintained cars was a corsa ragsing theinards outwards of itself, so might as well leave. left the place thinking sleeper camp is local, but where? I know follow a hungry looking fox to his gates!
Fox had alerted sleeper man and he was out doors waiting for me and lad with. not much of a ambush then.
What i seen of k11 sleeper leaves me amazed at the serious weight loss program in process :) and on going secrecy in new found areas yet to be shredded. Top bloke sleeper thanks for not letting your pet wolves shrill us two.
Oh drat one got in the way of starlet kid on way back gulp

Started putting it back together...& it now has perspex side windows, clear in the front, tints to the rear.
I went & bought a sheet of 6mm big enough to do all the side windows for £50.(3 square meters)The man in the suppliers laughed & asked me how I got on with cutting when I told him I got the last lot from B&Q.He told me It's actually Styrene, not for outdoor use, goes brittle & yellow & you don't cut through it you melt through it & it takes ages  The new stuff is ace, cuts & sands easy..
I've done away with the rubbers on the rear so took a lot of sanding to get right & stuck them in with seam sealer.
Going to tackle the tailgate glass next week..
So I've got some Styrene fronts left over which I'll tint for show purposes, don't think the Feds would approve
And fitted the winter tailgate as it looks like it's going to be cold & wet forever and wired it up & put the number plate & lights on..

Bored of watching me mess around with car windows
foxyawn.jpg

So went to check on the gearbox mount
foxgearbox.jpg

Been finishing bits off, sealing perspex, cutting more stuff off, sorting electrical gremlins,& it has at last now got a drivers seat.
Went to trim the firewall sound deadener & kinda got a bit excited & ripped it all out  well nearly all I've got to pull the heater stuff out the way to get the last bits.Heater MUST stay I tell myself seeing that summer has been cancelled it seems :(
Dispatched a Mazda 323F last week & relieved it of its rear spats, gave them a trim & now could be stuck on.I'll paint them black & see how they look..

spat.jpg

And have been "adjusting" the front wing to give it some flare.Has no splash guards so should help with the aerodynamics :D

And the Caddy has been Tango'd.Crying out for more lows & bigger rims ;)

Hi again :)
3 months have gone by,move around in the workshop resulted in the car being sheeted up & all my stuff getting mixed up so I lost enthusiasm but I've had a blitz this week and it is finally a road going car again!
Just in from refitting the exhaust, finally sorted the exhaust/axle noise with the assistance of tie wraps to strengthen the rubbers on the back box..
Had the auto sparks down this morning to wire the facelift rear lights & March plastic headlights & sort out the long standing bodged headlight wiring so now everything works.
Last job I remember messing around with before going AWOL was the rear springs & Corsa shocks.I removed the cut spax from the rear & used Micra ones, thought I'd got a bit carried away with the grinder but as it is now 100mm ish lower than standard it has actually stopped any arch/tyre scraping as the tyre is now right up inside the arch.Need to watch the fuel tank on speed humps, might have a fish for a racing tank inside the car..
Great fun to drive, the recent weight loss has made a big difference.Weighbridge beckons..And a lot of people stare & browse when it's parked in the street.
Few more lightened bits to fit, alternator bracket, engine support bar & sort out the tailgate plastic window.
Looking forward to having a nose at what's been going on :)

Welcome back sleeper :) cars looking super, how are the foxes? Lol

Thanks!
Fox is thriving.I did not see her for a couple of weeks as I only visited to put food down but when I did see her the mange has cleared up fully & she now has a full proper fox bushy tail :)
My neighbours save unwanted food for her so she does well, this week has had steak, chicken breast & tuna pasta.Eats better than me :(
Yard neighbour has also bonded so getting spoiled there too.
And we have/did have minging rats in the workshop which she chases so hope she stays.Found half rat in the yard I expect she dealt with

Is that wild fox your bro? That's so cool.

Liking the lows, good job on the matt too. Not too keen on the wheels though :(

oooooooof is that your petrol tank near the floor ??? :)
Yeah it's dangerously close to speedhumps, have a choice, racing fuel tank inside the car or go up to 14's which I have prepared for paint but accidentally sold the tyres robbed from a stricken Fiesta.I'll suffer it for now...

Awesome work dude! Had a lot of time on your hands =]
Cheers,it's ben a long time coming.I'm a bit all or nothing, the only way my cars get anything like finished is by throwing myself at them. This last blitz kept me in the workshop till 4am some nights with only my vermin friend for company & occasional visits from R Reg..
