How to tell a 1.3 from a 1.0

How do you tell the difference? My dad reckons it may be in the VIN number.

Basically he has a micra GX at work with no roof and is wanting to take the autoblock engine and put it into my car. Which means i'll be keeping the 1.0 gearbox, which im hoping should cope?

It's stamped on the front of the engine near the gearbox somewhere. Haynes manual/search of MSC should give you a more accurate answer

The gearbox should be able to cope fine, but wouldnt it be easier putting the 1.3 gearbox in as well or is that not working?

yes it will say cg10 or cg13, stamped on the block next to the gear box also tell its a 1.3 if it was pop out rear 1/4 windows

My 1 litre has the rear pop outs squarepants, so that doens't apply.

Its an automatic so i wont be able to use te gearbox from it... am i right?

And my 1.0 also has pop out windows, this car doesnt though, since the roof is missing lol

rob, you have to bolt your flywheel etc/gearbox to it

only 1.3s have rear anti roll bars apart from late 1.0s

yup gearbox is totally different, compared to a manual...while you could use it...youd be converting to auto which is pointless imo, cos they suck

yeah and by putting the 1l gear box on ull get better acceleration my mates got a 1.6 golf gtind hes got a 1lgear box on it goes like muk of a spade

I think the only way to know is either by the model, or the stamp on the engine block. And all the obvious stuff (V5 etc)
