That is an educated bodge for sure.Finished my vw conversion
I've managed to get hold of some cheap lowering springs but keeping the low cost aspect in mind, I don't really want to spend £80-£100 on an adjustable panhard rod... can someone tell me/link me to some offset bushes or tell me an equivalent one i can use, thanks.
less polo the betterThere's hardly any of that Polo left now you've replaced most of it with Micra bits...
offset bushes have to be custom made jamie
there,s very little shift when lowered zed, the p/rod will be near horizontalwhen a lowered k11 rear beam goes over a bump does it momentarily shift to right or left ?
we need to cable tie some wishbones back there super glue the front hubs on them ,we then half way to 4 wheel traksonthere,s very little shift when lowered zed, the p/rod will be near horizontal
the initial shift is greater jamie (because the p/rod is at an angle, like this \ ) but as the p/rod gets closer to horizontal the axle shift gets less and lessin fact, if i lower by 40mm... so i even need to play with the panhard rod?
You *may* be able to get away without an adjustable rod for a 40mm drop. Any more than that though and it's a definite necessity. I'm using one for my 40mm drop, just to be safe.they are 40mm loweing springs, would there be a way that i can just bash the standard beam to bend it slightly which will in turn make it shorter? can i use these bmw bushes? does anyone know the dimensions that i will need? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-E30-M...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3f0831af75

Aint bad for an '86
This K11 is so dangerous that it has to be kept in a cage behind a motorbike shop...
thats exactly what i get too jamie (5mm shift @ 40mm and another 3mm @ 80mm drop) so you will end up with a 10mm poke difference on the 2 rear wheels (40mm drop)OK I've just used trigonometry to work it out, it seems with a 40mm drop, the shift will only be about 5mm, which doesn't seem very considerable.. Do I even NEED an adjustable p/rod?
10mm difference, because the n/s wheel shifts 5mm inwards, and the o/s wheel shifts 5mm outwardsWait, why a 10mm shift?
yeh, but the poke or tuck difference between the arch and tyre (depending on what offset you have) is 10mmBut they move relative to each other
imagine you have 5mm clearance on both sides, then you shift the axle 5mm, you end up with 10mm clearance 1 side and zero on the other side (10mm difference)But they only move 5mm
it just looks naff from behind basically jamie, you could fit a 10mm spacer on 1 side ? or an offset bush on the o/s end of the p/rod gives 7mm of shiftOh you mean might poke out, my wheels are quite far in so won't be noticeable... Does that mean that I don't need an adjustable p/rod? Could I get away with it or will 5mm make a lot of difference
