On a serious note...The car has had a lot of focus over the last few weeks. The car is being a bit more serious, the attitude of 'it'll do' is not good enough any more and is being rid of. I have gone for a proper suspension set-up designed for the Micra, and is worth every penny.
Ignore the snapped driveshaft!
I visited the go to man, Matt @ Humphris Oxford -
http://www.humphrisoxford.co.uk/rally/ for a package which is going to take the car to the next level. Contact
@mph if you want to contact him on the forum. I would say just ring him, its easier!
So, where to start! The suspension, I have run through a couple of revisions of suspension set-up, and to be honest corsa/polo/lowering spring...just not worth it. Want it done properly, buy the right kit. Proper droop front and back (makes a huge difference) and great flexibility with dampening settings. Appropriately chosen spring rates for car (250lb/" front, 100lb/" rear), matt had a chat with me and what I want to do with the car, even taking in account for the extra weight of the mods up front. No fab work, perfectly fit the car and had these fantastic camber adjustment metal inserts for identical camber both sides.
Also, to compliment these I purchased some poly top mounts and metal bearings for a smooth action. bloody fantastic, the steering is so light and dare I say it, lessens the LSDs effects.
I grabbed some nismo bushed trailing arms, poly gearbox and engine mounts (side and back). I recently installed lower arm Nismo bushes and that made a great feel to the car, with the addition of the rest of the kit, the car feels tight as hell.
The uprated ARBs and their poly mounts mentioned above, counteract the soft suspension and maximise grip but kill that boaty feel. I never believed
@pollyp @Enuo @h701micra (no preference to order lol) but Jesus they were right. This stance'd rock solid feel I was running like many others here is just silly. To compliment the rear ARB I got some fully adjustable linkage and enables me to make on the fly changes whilst the car is on the floor. Great for when we hit the track!
As you know I previously installed a front lower strut bar, I complimented it with an upper and it just added to the cornering feel. However under inspection, like
@Noddie said (excuse me if I am wrong), it may be beneficial to triangulate it for a more solid strut. She moves a bit, but not too much. I will hopefully be adding under wing bracing to get those side tight too.
Finally, the caster kit... I rave about it... great turn in and makes the car feel so nippy! I grabbed myself a few second hand bargains from Humphris too, hydro handbrake, brake bias adjuster.
The roll cage is nearly in as well! New seats and 6 point harnesses. Got to love the safety kit! Oh fire ext kit and electric master cut off!
This whole update is what the car was missing. Its transformed the car and kills some time to my sprint courses times... private roads of course. I really feel the car is competitive now, and I now plan to use it for that. Money bloody well spent. Regarding the suspension, polos just don't compete and nor do the corsas; corsa coilovers are a maybe when machining a shock shaft extension with added bump stop in-between, but still don't get anywhere near these. *there are other suspension set-ups to buy I haven't tried them all...but to be honest, not many are designed specifically for the Micra*
I am going to breathing some new life in to the car and I hope to get some footage. It may not keep up with the big boys on the straights, but the corners they may have issues. Bigger turbo, more power, bigger brakes, lightweight, stiffer, safer, stay tuned.
