JAE 2014
Set off on thursday 7am with lisa, arrived at 10:30 waiting in queue for ages to get in. while waiting I spotted tom n chloe allowed in from an opposite queue from the back of the pub, ey? how r they allowed to get in? found out later that they arrived n checked in alot earlier parked behind pub and were allowed to the park first.
slowly we got in, yay got to see chloes car and toms made it fine. was lisa's first time so introduced her to tom, chloe, anthony, joe and his fab caravan. we setup tents at the back of the 4 plot area.
carrie, james n louise soon arrived in another different bigger car
we all setup the gazebo.
more ppl arrived but sadly this year wasn't a great turnout on this massive plot. only mainly K11 but zero K10.
we signed in for the Knock Out event, first time I ever participate so will be interesting.
was soon told to attend the dragonboat racing, ey? thought I was only doing karting but hey what the heck, we needed as many ppl to join.
climb onto the boat behind will n karl but I almost slipped on the wet boat floor which woulda been very bad. damn the boat is so unstable, worry we'll topple into the firthy water in my nice clothes
had afew rusty practices before showtime, and GO Puwerr, following karls pace, ah mann splashing all over soaking my arms n trousers but must paddle for the win
I peaked over and we were >THIS< close, just 1sec apart
gr8 team effort everyone
think we came 2nd overall that round, later got knocked out but at least we beat our rival
and now the karting round on the evening
we observed the previous teams and noticed a mixture of success between the two karts. the yellow kart launches better but the red kart seem to have better top speed.
we theorised that yellow kart was dragging it's clutch (lady was always holding it steady) so reduced clutch engagement time.
me n will stepped on and guy commentating if I was there for business meeting or a carshow cos of the smart wear n called me some sort of victor
my secret plan was to preload the centrifugal clutch like how you drag launch an automatic turbo, hold brake with left foot whilst applying slight throttle to engage/drag the clutch so that the instant we GO, the clutch was already engaged n immediately launches, while the other driver has to wait for the engine/clutch to catch up.
and this worked every time
the 2nd plan was to utilise the friction of the inner rail to slow the other kart n jump ahead before the oval turn. didn't notice the irregular step n gap in the rail which cause the other kart to sorta "pit manouver" the back end of mine, quick countersteer sorted it, stick to the inside, but on return got told off n restarted
called an innocent vicor cos I'm always smiling n innocent.
oopsy, play it clean this time. good launch, got ahead but messed up the pitstop with the silly belt buckle. twas alot of fun.
that night sirChris arrived and everyone was exstatic
we were all so happy to see him. he took me out in his car and geez take about zero compromise tis brutal hehe. hard suspension n brakes, power was good, paddle clutchpack simply bites hard on/off so upshift was nice but twas his mental fast driving which was startling. I mean 60 through town and over 100 down the 50 roadwork motorway, I was more nervous of getting pulled over or my guilty side going erm, is this allowed?
next morning I was nominated to do the bungee run. was up against a mother, plan was to let her go first to get a gauge of where to aim for and then I go 1sec later to beat it. was a success but ended up with a bad friction burn on the elbow n the mothers son was crying, aww
we went back to car for first aid but missed my round n was knocked out, meh. overall a fab event.
at the stand it was traditional business as usual for me fixing cars
chloe had a cold start issue so did my usual routine removing the old waxstat - calibrate IACV - adjust timing & idle speed and she ran sweet as nut
did the same checkup to toms while he was cleaning/waxing my car
then was trying to check enuo's timing of his GA16 conversion but seemed he forgot to fit the timing marker
then did summore checkups with few other members cars
luved it
andy then let me drive his electric waterpumped GA16
went for a drive with lisa and oh god this is luxury compared to mine
soft ride is silky smooooth comfortable while the bigger GA16 has the low end grunt, tis a gr8 cruiser.
bonfire on saturday night holding onto lisa was spectacular and romantic
no revving but still an epic sight with hazards n horns n excitement n admiring the water beading off the waxed cars after the rain
sunday we packed up, was a luvely sunshine and my car has never looked this clean lol, thx tom
didn't catch chris leaving but thx for a gr8 time.
it's been a really epic show for me n lisa
