K10 mechanic needed S.London

I just purchased an 85 Micra auto, and need a knowledgeable, honest, and hopefully cheap K10 oriented mechanic for some 'new' car pains. Some engine tweaking/other internals, etc. I'm afraid I lack the erudition of just about eveyone in this forum. My normal guys have only a limited, general-car focus... SW or SE London would be great, but willing to travel a bit. Thanks. Alan

Im not sure I really know how to describe the problems involved. There are petrol consumption issues, possibly an auto-choke problem, the engine sounds noisy, it revs high sometimes at the very lowest speeds and I have a gut feeling the car needs a tune by someone who knows the car. Its got 47.000 (real) miles....The coolant is oily, although its the right colour, the car does not run hot, the oil looks/feels fine, and it doesnt burn oil. There doesnt seem to be coolant loss. There is no whitish goop under the cap either. It has been serviced regularly, but only the usual routine, never any of the 'finer' adjustments.

If its drinking fuel, it could well be the carb chucking in too much fuel, worn jets, or the autochoke's stuck on. I've had that happen to mine, it didnt run quite right either when it was happening - misfiring and poor mpg, so just got another from a scrappy so most of my problems were sorted.

You should also check the timing is firing correctly, as you could have consumption issues if it's out.

Also, check the spark plugs too. That could give you an indication as to how well the car is :)

sounds like you need a good tune up, tappets adjusting, carb mixture and idle adjustment and ignition timing adjusting and a check of the auto choke mechanism to see if its working or not

Any normal garage will do this, if all else fails you can get in contact with me if you wish. (SE based)
