When I get hold of one is the wiring at the back the same as I already have on my GX?

Wiring was different for mine as the fuel gauge is on the other side.
Also you will need to get one from the same age onwards as the speedo drive will be electric.

I found one on ebay its off a M reg where as mine is a R reg, what exactly do I need?

That will not work as teh speedo drive is different - you need a 98 onwards car - the model that you are loking for is SR of Si.
