Has anyone noticed....

Im well aware and agree totally with the reasons as to why renault is a curse word around here... but if you want a new reason to curse them, heres the link :D

Does this concern anyone else? is the petrol engine this close to being out dated?
are any mechanics fearing that in the next 3 to 5 years their trade will be of a dying breed?

Doesn't worry me its inevitable. Don't be afraid of the technology. I suspect people felt the same when diesel started replacing steam...

these cars fail

first of all the power comes from powerstations which produce co2, if they are powered from solar panels, windfarms, wavefarms etc, there wont be enough power to power all the vehicals on the road. they can go no where near as far as normal cars, and can only do 1 trip and then you have to wait for them to charge, you cant just fill them up and keep going.

now if all cars used only for getting to work and back etc, were replaced by electric cars that were automatically charged when parked and were charged only using green sources then they would be on to something, but these wont replace petrol cars.

a better idea is hydrogen, in theory a normal petrol car could be converted to run on hydrogen in the same way a car can be converted to LPG, just with a tank of hydrogen in the back. everyone thinks hydrogen is dangerous, but it is not flamable unless mixed with air, just like LPG, methane, petrol etc so it is no more dangerous. it means new cars dont have to be made, normal cars can just be converted. they will run and sound the same, and they can be filled up just as quickly as a petrol car...

personaly i look forward to it and working out how we can 'tune' this new technology! just somthing else to learn about(Y) think of it a bit like the swap from carbs to EFI or as Ed said, steam to diesel. just hope im not to old before it really takes off.

yeah im looking forward to the future in cars! the more technology they can get in there the more companies will inevitably find ways of 'tuning' cars to make theirs stand out!
faster cars and technically should be cheaper. that is until the goverment shove a load of tax on that too!

The only time Renaults worry me is when they pull up outside the garage!
I suspect the Renault system will carry on Renaults tradition of poor build quality, unreliability and general wierdness.

Alternatively fuelled cars will break down in the same. Give it a few years and 'Euro car parts' leaflets will be full of cut price batteries, OE drive motors etc.

The motor trade is made up of 2 types of independant garage/tuners,
Ones that move with the times and adapt to new technology are known as garages.
Those who don't become 'Specialists'. LOL!
