That engine is based on this by the looks of it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Napier_Deltic

The supercharger is required for scavenging. It most probably wouldn't really run that well at all without one.

i would have thought that the cylinders at the bottom would have trouble getting fuel, if it was a 4 stroke it would suck the fuel in, but 2 strokes arnt so good at that

2 strokes are great at sucking fuel in, as the cylinder moves up it creates low pressure in the crank case sucking the fuel in.

I'd say better as the 'valves' are open all the time for sucking air/fuel in whereas on a 4t it can only suck when the valve is open.

The valve on a 2 stroke is separate from the combustion chamber

Just to add my boat has a 2stroke v6 2.4 litre engine that makes 220hp at the prop. On idle out of water it sounds like a drag car engine lol.

most 2 strokes have reed valves tho eh ed, and some are rotary/disc valve, but the engine in the op is piston ported
