The Micra of questionable choices

After the giant ball ache that was me collecting parts for my brother they're now all mine so I should probably do something with them. Figured I should probably start a blog of sorts even if its just to keep track of what I've done.

I have one sub 40k 2002 1.0L Tempest.

One 60k 1.4L coil pack engine & transmission (sans ecu)

Some alloys I picked up off of nissan boy

Some GTR calipers & rev counter off of DEdgeMac.

Whats the worst that could happen?

Finally got around to prepping the wheels after clearing some space and it totally slipped my mind than alloy filler has metal in it, thought I could just generously skim them and blast through it  Orbital is broke so these are going to be a bitch to do.

Thats the only "bad" wheel prepped and etched, the rest just had minor skuffs. Only three more to finish prepping and then I can do the undersides.

New calipers + bits & bobs arrived!

Brakes are a bit spongy & I'm driving to Liverpool and back tomorrow so decided to change the fluid, got to the drums and both nipples are knackered (one is also broken).

Looks like its time to replace the rear cylinders...

Great work with the wheels. Your new CGA3 looks clean too.
Unfortunately your pictures don't seem to be working in your last post!

Well ****. Both inlet connections are totally destroyed even when using flare nut spanners. One comes out with heat but likely won't go back in, they other is just completely shot. Brake lines need replacing too by the looks of it. Need to try and get into a garage tomorrow morning as I have not flaring tools or materials.

Can't do anything about that till tomorrow now and I found some spare orange paint lying about, lets paint all those new things neon orange (because why not).

Bugger. I can't upload / hyperlink using the image function for some reason so was just putting links to imgur.

Edit: I see them on a different browser  Maybe something at your end?
How strange. I can't see them on Safari, Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome. Not a clue.

I was just about to load up another PC and try it on that, but looks like I don't have to! That was weird, I'm sure there is a reasonable explanation for it though!

Haha aye, this website hates my pc. Can upload straight from safari on my phone but not on a real computer.

Success! (I hope)

It turns out that nothing can't be achieved with the use of a hammer and a welding torch!

Brake pipe union
CrpIRL9.jpg

For anyone interested in sizes (since I couldn't find any for reference) 3/16ths for pipe and generic Halfords unions (I believe m10 but will measure up tomorrow).

I assume this means you haven’t made it to Liverpool yet? Looks like you’re getting it sorted though! Sorry I couldn’t be of any help re sizes.

Nah had to push it back to Monday as that’s when the garage could book it in, I just got frustrated and had someone go and collect me a box of every type of male union and pipe thickness (turns out there’s only one they sell).

Do I just hand tighten brake pipe unions as far as I can? I know the principal is that the flare at the end of the pipe is the actual seal and it’s flattened by the union but not sure if over tightening results in a crack?

Still have some thread visible on the hose end of the pipe...

Bolts delivered, cut to size, filed and then (finally) fitted. Far more stress than it should have been :ROFLMAO:

Still curious about union joint tightness if anyone could let me know?

How did you sleep? Just upright or with the seat all the way back? I’ve been toying with the idea since I’ve had mine...

I’m 6,1 so maybe I’d have to find a different way of sleeping! Sleeping upright is the worst thing in the world... I haven’t actually checked. Do the seats recline back very far?

Upright with the seat all the way back, they recline surprisingly far! I’m taller than the car is wide so can’t sleep in the back, I could potentially sleep longways though since I have no passenger seat.

New radiator cap as driving up to Scotland the coolant expansion kept draining + a gurgling noise when I shut the engine off. No signs of a leak anywhere so fingers crossed that fixes it.

Messy but rust treated and painted, will do for now. 2 brake pipes down, 3 to do tomorrow. Then I just need to find somewhere that sells pipe clips as they all cracked on removal.

So all the brake pipes and flexi are finally in with thread sealer and I'm hoping the MOT guy doesn't mind that everythings just zip tied as I had no more clips... Ran out of long pipe too so theres two unions, touch wood they don't complain about those either.

So 18 months on from getting the engine I finally found time to tear it down... and completely forgot to label and bag things. This could get awkward going forward

Figured I'd see how the engine cleaned up with some degreaser and a jet wash. Not particularly well so thats it drying out before being stowed away for next time I'm home when I can soda blast it.
Tried to blow it out with air but the compressor tripped out the entire house. Definitely need a bigger supply to the garage!
