The Cost of Post Gone Mad!

It's been a long time since I've sent anything through the post, but I used to sell stuff on eBay and used to know roughly what stuff cost.

So here I am, packaged up some bits to post to a member from this forum in a large Jiffy bag. Got to the Post Office expecting about a fiver max for plain ol' first, and it come to a total of 10.80!? I mean, seriously! That wasn't even Royal Fail recorded or even First Class Recorded.

The bag was pretty small but weighed no more than 1.5KG.

Do you think over a tenner for first class is ludicrous? Or am I being a tight arsed git?
Any alternatives? I knew a cheap-ish courier but the name eludes me.

If it weighed no more than 1.5kg...then it shouldnt have cost £10.80 assuming its not been sent parcel force express, which is pricey.

I've found royal mail cheapest for smaller items its only when you start to get a bit heavy that other couriers start to become cheaper so long as the size doesnt start getting silly.

I rarely pay silly amounts for postage, it helps to get quotes before hand so you know what to charge

Looks like Collect+ can send it for just £3.99 and that's recorded!

Anything that I send over 1kg, I use a courier. Royal Mail is only good for very light items.

I use Parcel2go as well, great website / service. Royal fail are usually quite pricey for larger items.

parcel2go all the way =D, usually ends up a hermes delivery, but for a 25kg package 44 X 27 X 27 (cm) £8.50 with yodel! =D
