a couple more coats and to do the other sides as I didn't want news paper stuck to them. Bam. New seals turning up, so regrease and assemble. Then need to do the various rods and what not. Thinking of doing all the axle and various other bits blue to. What you think?

Nice sticker ya big perv :p

Pretty jealous of that steering wheel though! i want one! *runs towards ebay like a rabbit on crack*
Pretty good deal, I think its a real one as well. The seller was a big import JDM thingie. Lots of good feedback. Plus, I just have to hope the boss fits :D

Jobs coming along a treat Chris, everything is much easier to put back when its nice and clean! what paint are you using on the hubs etc? looks to be good stuff!

Shamefully Halfords Paint... but you know what who cares. Budget build for the win Skinner. I think the key is really going to town on the prep work, a few careful & slow layers and I think the finish will be nice. I am really thinking of blue on everything under the car. Possibly the engine as well :D I dont know!!!! Anyone know how to get the steering wheel off on the air bag setups?

Looks good quality to me mate, most of mine is only hammerite, wish id gone for enamel as i've heard its quite tough!

For the airbag (once the battery has been off for a while) if you lever back to plastics that are on the either side of the wheel there are 4 security torx bolts that need to be taken off if i remember right (its been a while).. (big set of mole grips will get them off) then you can get to the nut holding the wheel on..

Yeah enamel seemed like the right option, temp resistant as well! Will paint bolt heads with it as well I think, full bolt replacement.. well to my best ability anyway. So you going to put me up when i come over to isle of man?

I would if i had the room mate! Should get a few of you guys over, il camp on the TT course, quick access for a few laps! :)

It would need our mate Skinner to do the foot work, I would be willing to give a hand in organising. Sorry skinner :D Well volunteered

Its a film about the Manx TT race we have each year mate, best road race on the planet!, i recon you'd enjoy it............

I highly recommend this film too
the onboard opening sequence with 5.1 surround tis awsome.
and the scene where conner cummins literally flew over a cliff and bash into the rock walls below at insane speeds breaking afew bones and lived was #silence#

chris, I went over to isle of man during my roadtrip holiday before finishing at JAE.
The TT course is a public road so u can drive through town at usual speed limits but once ur in the open mountains, its unlimited as you sensibly dare. 80+mph down a narrow bumpy country lane at the end of the course was butt clenching :p

not 100% sure on the grease to use behind on the mech, i left it dry on the rolla, only because the grease will attrance all kinds of dirt, but any sort of grease carefully applied will do the job!

also ive heard of air bags going of months after being removed, someone posted on RR that they gave a fiat wheel to there kid while clearinbg out there garage as a toy and it went off with the kid playing with it, thankfully he was ok!

dirt from the outside elements will only be attracted to the greasy surfaces exposed to the outside.

the internal bit of the mech is isolated from the elements via a rubber seal.

if the insides are left bare dry, it will be rubbing metal to metal during long term operation plus the moist air left inside will allow it to corrode and seize up.

I prev found the reason why my old calipers had seized was cos:
- the old rubber handbrake arm shaft seal had perished/hardened
- allowing outside water & dirt to seep through and contaminate the factory grease
- mucky grease began to cause rust
- rust n moisture n heat eventually dried out the old grease, further accelerating the rust on the shaft bearing surfaces
- meanwhile the lack of lube causes the mechanism to stick/seize

packing that mech area full of grease is to both lube and prevent any air/moisture from corroding the metal bits while its the rubber seals job to keep it that way

Skinner ...I have always wondered this. What do you actually do? Work must be limited on the isle of man.

Work in Finance mate, most work here is to do with offshore stuff etc... there's a big telecoms industry, bit of aviation all sorts really.. quite alot for a small island :)

God that looks like a right laugh! I think I would be too dangerous :D Those videos help with the feel to the car. Seems that it plants well and she is very stable.

So what do we rekon? Silicon grease as well?

no more dangerous than any other normal country roads, just requires common sense and look far ahead and know ur limits.
twas an exhilarating experience, makes me smile ear to ear with a sort of inner fizzing sensation :)
