what are other people running and what's been the results?

Helps if you quote which mic you've been tested on, and where the mic was placed.

Todays world standard is the Termlab mic stuck on the passanger side of the windscreen, just above the dash.

It reads lower (up to 7dB) but a lot more accurately than the old AudioControl mics.

It's kind of pointless comparing, unless everyone uses the same mics! Btw, I managed a 136.5dB reading on the Termlab mic at the last Talkaudio meeting (they were doing official readings for free, yee), with 1kwrms up the ass of a single ported 10" subwoofers.

More comparisons here to get an idea of where people might be:

:)

Stu, how much power does the sub amp kick out?

Btw, I'm running a single JL 10" subwoofer in a new streetbass box, being given 1kwrms by the 5th channel of an amp. The other 4 channels are being used to run my active DLS frontend, with 80wrms per tweeter and 130wrms per mid/midbass. :)

yeah mate thats the mics ive been tested on, not the ####ty mean street cruise stuff where people get 159db with 1 10" boss sub!

the sub amp is 1500w rms mate.

and yeah thats where it was tested from, the passenger side windscreen, still got the little red dot on for ease. had to ####### wor lass when she tried to pick it off a while back lol.

oh and mine got 148.7db iirc....need more batteries, and another sub amp wouldnt go amiss!

iirc the freq was 48hz, subs run sealed and inverted!!

install was basically done for looks to finish the car off, but a change of amp turned it into a reasonably loud install! so if the subs ran normally and the box was ported i could see 150db easily i reckon.

stew, i was in that saxo that monty done and my breathing was imapred, i think i had a compressed lung afterwards, ive heard yours is louder but fudge me i had migrains for a week after monty showed me that, hasnt monty got an audio tester that he paid like 7k for or summit?

get it to a show and get it on the db drag/iasca stand where they do db readings.

ben, the saxo you were in has just been redone and is a bit louser. his uses 4 batteries, whereas mine only has one, mine was exactly the same reading last year but his will be slightly louder now.

did you find it hard to talk while inside the car? that and your vision becomes blurry?

I once tested 142 on a orion 12 inch hcca sub and 1.2K rms. However my previous system was far more efficient had two 15's in a V to couple them, unfortunately I never had this tested, but where as you could cope with the single 12 on full power you could not sit and listen to these haha. The fronts however were equally mad, and had USD waveguides and 6.5 inch mids that were run from a 2x220w rms amp. By comparison the subs only had 600wrms. Half the HCCA system, but as anyone who remembers it (James T?) was much much better overall.

7k for an audio tester?
what does it actually do?
tune the system or read DB levels?
is it an RTA?
