Removing rear brake drum

Any trick to removing the rear brake drum? I have parking brake off and a wheel spins freely. Wheel off and drum should just come off right? Wacked with a hammer all over many times. Tried prying against the backing plate but it just bends. What am I doing wrong here. The manual on the useful links thread has almost nothing to say on rear brakes.

re drums

has the drums not got 2 threaded holes in them .if so you can screw a bolt into the holes ,as you tighten them drums should lift of .or there is a blanking plug in the back plate with allows acess to the adjuster to slacken off .hope this helps

what SN31 said, but be careful as when I was pulling a drum off that way, it took the shoes with it and snapped 1 side of the locator off the brake cylinder!
