I've been to a few tribute band concerts over here and usually sat well back from the stage. Still found it to be pretty loud, however, and by the end of the evening my tired old ears were ringing much more than they usually do (touch of tinitus).
But last night wife, son and self went to the Area here in Nottingham and saw the Scissor Sisters. As a result I think I've probably suffered permanent hearing loss. We arrived around 1830 and took our seats which were about 75 feet to the side of stage center. On either side of the stage there were blocks of speakers bigger than my Micra. They were pumping out what I can only describe as droaning, monotonous, and very loud, music to, perhaps, dance to. No lyrics to speak of just, well, sound, with a very heavy bass.
I thought I'd heard some pretty heavy bass out of the boots of some of the cars at JAE but they paled to insignificance compared to this lot. The speakers actually seemed to be bouncing around a bit but I'm sure that was probably me being jolted around in my seat.
The opening act was a band named "Gossip." A young lady drummer, a guitarist of indeterminate sex and a rather large (really large) young lady
vocalist in a clinging yellow knit dress (?) and silver snake skin tights. A sight to see, and hear.
The Scissor Sisters themselves put on quite a show, their lead singer a regular whirlwind of hyperkinetic energy while his female counterpart was only a little more restrained.
A good concert, all in all, but I would have prefered not to have waited for 2 1/2 hours for the Sisters to come on while that astounding bass rattled the fillings out of my teeth.
