NCVT problem. Any ideas ?

W Reg 1.3 K11 Auto.
Every now and then, when selecting drive, reverse or neutral, NCVT light comes on and there is no drive.
I turn off ignition, wait a few seconds and restart. Light goes off and I have drive.
Niggly !

From the number of replies I've had, it looks like a unique problem.
Could I then ask, does the ECU control gear selection functions ?
Ever since we've had the car, it has been difficult to get into gear. Pretty much
like trying to put a manual into gear without engaging the clutch !

Difficulty getting it into gear, it might just need the cables adjusting.

Thanks guys. Andy, the mechanic says it isn't the cable as he has adjusted it either way.
Possibly clutch thingy isn't disengaging properly causing the grating and difficulty getting into drive ?
Re the brushes - they were replaced. Maybe needed to wear down a bit as the lack of drive is
getting less frequent

Theres also the sensor linked up with the throttle body cable that engages the clutch at a set point, maybe needs a tweak?
