So I bought this CGA3 off Belly knowing it was suffering from an oil leak.

Over all it's starting to look like this engine has had a hard unloved life

Oh and excuse the mess :)

i,ve bought a couple like that karl :) i had to dig the crud out of the headbolt to get the allenkey in ! you will find that the oil control rings are congealed into their grooves

Thankfully I'm not keeping the coil pack head, skinner has a nice shiny dizzy one I'm getting.

Is it ok to stick the cams in the dishwasher to clean of the crud?

It'll be a little while before I get to the pistons, I really need to tidy up my hidey hole so I can get my engine stand in there :)

Seen the dishwasher method before... I would chose jet was then degrease then jet wash. Warm soapy water. Wd40. Blow dry.

All though I did this a few weeks ago it should really be documented here (more for my sake :))

My home brew t2 manifold

First start off with a stock mani

Cut the cat flange off

Weld turbo flange on (after asking Frank a couple of questions :))

Still not 100% finished, need to clean up the welds and have the flange skimmed to make sure it's flat

I noticed the sludge when i bought it from the brakers and ran a couple of flushes through didn't help by the looks of it :/

I'm not too bothered by the sludge it's the block that I want to see :)

Did you suspect anywhere other than the crank seal for the oil leak?

I thought it might have been burning it but when I had it in a ramp at work I saw it was running and dripping onto the exhaust

Sent from my PMP5580C using Micra Sports Club mobile app

Haha cheers Paul

I only know what I know because of you, frank, skinner and stani (other people as well but I'd be here all night naming them)

Frank, what happened with your corsa piston'd cga3? You've kinda scared me into not doing it :)
no problems with the pistons karl, even tho the engine was cooked (it took 6 styrene cups of water to refill the rad),
i,ll strip the engine next week, and post up the pic,s :)

it was holding back on the last 3 laps mate, and then i looked at the temp gauge
my best cranks are in the high comp engines, this crank had been "fettled" and 1 of the big-ends has munched its shells

So looking at getting a different turbo, any recommendations?

Saab td04, scooby td04 or something else
depends what powerband you are after really karl, my td05 gave a powerband like a bike engine eh (straight diagonal line).
i was scouring the yards today, and the 1 yard has that many 2.0 diesel tubby,s that they dont bother removing them any more ! and their weigh-in skip is full of complete engines

I don't want to be on boost whilst driving in town but I don't want to wait until I have to change gear before it kicks in.

I was impressed by both yours and Paul's tubbys.

Was it a td05 in the white car Friday?
