My boot will not stay open?

Basically when I open my boot it closes slowly.
For me to keep it open I have to put a block of wood to hold it up, I am a beginner for this sort of thing.
Any help would be welcome, will put a video link up soon to show you what happens.

sounds like a strut or two is tired, you could remove each one in turn to see if its only one that has failed

I have checked them, but not thoroughly. Where would I get new ones and how much roughly?

my boot nearly killed me last week,mooching around the boot and BANG,felt as if someone was malleting my head,the ball joint was rusted and came away,the other strut was useless! saw some on ebay for not verry much....
