Micra k11 Brake Upgrade Options

Hi all,

Thought I'd make a thread documenting which brake setups etc definitely fit the micra with no/very little modifications.

100nx / Sunny n14/ Early Almera n15
You'll need the 1.6 100nx callipers, the 1.4/1.6 sunny brakes are exactly the same. The bits you'll need are the calliper, carriers, brake pads and discs.
Remove the old callipers and fitting these bigger brakes is very easy - simply put a 1mm washer between the hub and calliper carrier to get the disc centred in the calliper. All brake line fittings are the same.
For daily driving the master cylinder is fine, and even when racing most people say the standard mc is good. A few people however have upgraded the mc to improve pedal feel.
Some people take a few mm of the discs to get more clearance between the disc and callipers using a lathe - I've not had a problem, just took a tiny bit of metal off from the calliper.

Will fit behind 13" wheels. Nice and light brake setup, brake disc diameter is pretty much the same but as they're vented they won't fade as quickly on track.

Pulsar GTiR Callipers
Again for this conversion you'll need callipers, carriers, pads and discs.
Fitting is the same, remove old stuff and use a washer between the hub and carrier to spave the disc centrally in the calliper.
Some people use a lathe to take a couple of mm off of the discs, but not necessary.
Due to the larger fluid volume of these callipers an uprated master cylinder is recommended, but the standard master cylinder just about copes (supposedly).

This brake setup ^ is much larger and heavier, having a bigger calliper and disc - they only fit under 14" wheels and really add to your unsprung mass.


There are other brake 'upgrades' available from Nissan cars, lots of Nissans from the 90's era used brakes with will fit, the two above are simply the most common options.

Please feel free to correct anything I've written, and detail any other brake upgrades.
 
As the pulsar guys use early Evo calipers with Clio discs that may be an option.

But most likely very overkill!

I know someone on the Facebook page looked into it but gave up on the idea for a reason I now can't remember!
As you say, massively overkill but would give good bragging rights
 
Not for the 99% but I spec'd these up for the Micra. Currently under test on the turbo K11 seeing as the SuperS is only a rolling shell with no MOT and an un-mapped fresh engine.

When considered with the wheel that was designed along side them, (not shown there), they weight less than the OEM wheel, disc and caliper setup.

They are really rather nice, if I was to ever get a micra kit car I'd be running something along those lines, maybe a wildwood kit

I've had a play with 4 pot calipers from an MGF.
Wasn't a bolt on of course but those are options.
Moved into AP calipers similar to Dave's above but without the nice disc
Those will soon be redundant too pending the future wheel size
Purely for lower cost of replace-ability if the need arises

If fitting 100NX /Sunny 1.4 calipers which carriers do I need to use... the micra k11 or 100NX Also are Sunny 111 1.4 carriers same as 100NX ???

I haven’t seen any ‘quick’ drum to disc brake conversions on a K11. I’ve seen a few in Japan, but of course, that’s Japan.

I fitted a citroen C3 master on the micra brake booster to suit the bigger pulsar GTIR caliper volume

Almera 1.6 abs 252x20mm. Clears 14 and 13 with some grinding of the calipers. 54mm piston. Does not give increase pedal travel on stock MC. Brake pedal is litle harder than before. Bite point is now very early.

Little. I can take closer pics when i fit the revolution rfx nezt week. I tested just the wheels when they arrived on thursday before having them painted silver and had about 2 or 3mm cleareance. Pretty much the same or less that gtir calipers on 14s. If u compare my pics with the calipers unmodified from the thread here https://www.micra.org.uk/threads/brake-caliper-upgrade.72469/#post-787650 u see little difference. Pm me if u want better pics
 
I was concerned the wheels could not clear the weights they put on the inside to balance them. I have less than 1mm clearance from calipers but it works!

What are the options on brake pad upgrades on the 1.6 100NX / Almera N14 front brakes?

So far I've only found EBC Greenstuff and Mintec M1144 pads which are basically fast road / street pads. Seems like the EBC Greenstuff arent in stock on most places.

+1 for 22V calipers from GTi-R. Just needs 1mm washer between hub and carrier and they are bolt on upgrade. Highly recommend braided brake lines. In my opinion there is no point to go with sth smaller than 22Vs. They fit under 15s wheels, and propably 14s, but cant confirm that.
Rn I am creating new 4 pot set on 300mm discs.

IMHO anything above the OEM brakes is overkill if you don't go over 90 HP, always speaking about stopping power. However, the solid ones overheat and bend easily when the car is driven hard, so the obvious upgrade is going for a set of vented discs. Almera/Sunny/100NX 1.6's are the most common and cheap callipers out there, anything over those look great but have a softer pedal feel and don't break better, just dissipate heat better. Also, they don't fit in 13s at all, and the GTI-R might not fit all 14 rims.

I don't see the point in fitting brakes that big without a car over 100 HP and a brake booster swap, while a simple swap to cheap brakes is enough to get vented discs that stop the car on a dime and don't overheat.

I did buy another just the same, I figured I'd collect all the parts over time, however I get a feeling the carriers will be like hens-teeth. Those calipers have just arrived from America, it took 11 days, they're just as good as the ones photoed, with little to no corrosion before the refurb. Came in at £130 delivered.

Hi I'm after a larger master cylinder... really struggling to find one I need a 25.04 bore one what was this one?
