My Battery dies really easily now. So i have to try and figure out whether it's the terminals/battery/alternator....
stereo cuts out everynow and then loses all it's memory like the battery was unplugged for a second.

Example. Used the car for a whole week no problems...
Started car - went in to the shops - came back to the car - turned electrics on - put the windows down (electric) - car wouldn't start and engine check light flashing.
Waited 10 mins without anything on... car started afterwards...

Leads me to believe the alternator isn't charging the battery enough and everytime i get in the car it has just that little bit to start it...
Any easy test to define the problem?
Perhaps multimeter on the alternator/battery?

also it hasn't happened since and there is no engine check light after that one time but i left the lights on after parking up last night for 1/2 mins max and the car wouldn't start again afterwards.
This morning - Fine started no problem...

Any ideas?

aye, multimeter shaun :) around 14v while running = charging ok
and if that's the case i look towards the battery itself yeah? fingers crossed it's something silly or the battery itself. alternators can be a little pricey. :(

Same thing happened this morning :(
gave it a 130 mile journey on saturday/sunday
this morning went down the shops in it before work.
went into the shops came back and wouldn't start...
Either the battery isn't holding charge (new battery)
or the alternator is dead. (new alternator) :(

the battery needs like 14v to start it! my mates battery had 11v and wouldnt start and it had to be jumped, but after short drive it would start but after a short amount of time between wouldnt start!

changed the battery and its perfect

so id try a new battery first alternators dont often go wrong

The battery is the most expensive part though...
And i think Mckenziecz might of even changed it only a year and a bit ago...
my dad seems to think it might even be the starter motor.

ill get some voltmeter on there today before and after a jump start and see what happens... Damn thing. i WILL make it to the RR gathering!

PROBLEM SOLVED
I am an absolute tard!
Let's put it this way... The suspension is so firm it knocked my + terminal half off of the battery!
Why i didn't check this before is beyond me...

Feel Free to chuck some 'Special Treatment' this way....

Mine used to do this all the time, so you're not the only one. You know the metal clips you get when you buy 6x9s, for fixing them to the parcel shelf? I just clipped a few of those into the terminal, solved the problem straight away. But the terminal was slightly loose anyway

Yeah i never noticed it that's what really annoys me...
Got a lift to work this morning and left the car at the shops all day thinking... New battery? Alternator? Starter motor?
little monkey got me all wound up for nothing!

I told you to check the terminal first

Never looked as though it was actually loose.

all is forgiven then :grinning:

Managed to install one yes ONE extended stud today. getting them out wasn't the problem. winding the new ones in is very time consuming took me almost two hours to do just one!!
Wheels looking tasty now though and there is gonna be some thread left for spacers too! (Y)

Sorry for the Cheapy iPhone pictures...

Anyone know a cheap way of covering the center caps? don't really like the 'chrome' center and don't want to pay huge amounts!
perhaps paint can lids?

Oh and some useless information to go with the above post:
Extended stud is +20mm think it is 63mm in total...
The wheels also have custom made spigot rings on there and bespoke open ended wheel nuts thanks to Mark. (Y)

1 stud closer to getting them on eh:D Will these be on ready for RR gathering? Want to see these!

No idea about the spray can lids, but yeah black would look good, stock nissans ones like marks however, have potential I think.

Yeah they WILL be on for the Meeting. that is the plan anyways even if i have to pay for a garage to finish it off.
need some part worns on there and we are good to go!

as for the caps mark has/had would love to do it but i don't know how he attached them or where to find some as most scrappies never keep them and eBay is overpriced even for used ones :(

Key the superlight caps and spray them black!

I have two sets of stock base spec centres - if you want to use one set come and get them on extended loan. They friction fit over the nuts.

When installing your studs slide a socket over the stud, then a couple of washers, then the stock wheel nut backwards, make sure that you grease the washers and nut - this helps to dramatically reduce the friction between the parts that need to move over each other and makes it loads easier to install the studs, also use a breaker bar to lock the hub in place against the spigot and another stud, going down to the ground.

Centre caps attach to the nuts, just push on, not sure if they'd fit aswell on your particular nuts though, I've got some you can try out at the meet, but I'll not be selling them:p You could always do what mark's done on his rears now iirc it's a vac-formed disc that also covers the unused holes?

I think they'll look good whatever you do to them, paint the minilites' if you have too:)

Or I'll swap you my black plasic centres for the superlight ones :p
i still have the black centers you made for me mark when i collected the wheels.
i'll try a few things and see what i like.
But firstly i need to get the studs sorted.
hope it isn't too wet/hot/sunny/cloudy/snowy tomorrow...

Day 2 of the extended stud Mission:
I actually found this axle stand to be better than a bar between the studs... That and i didn't have one big enough! lol

Obviously it pokes out a bit too much as the car is jacked at an angle!

The Rest of the car has these nuts all around that's why i can't continue yet...
ExtendedStuds13.jpg

Basically it gets easier as it goes on... however i had to stop at one wheel as i ran out of stock open ended nuts so i can only carry on when i have tyres on the alloys so i can do the front axle first then move onto the back. fingers crossed it will be dry throughout the week but no where near as hot! - Very sweaty job lol

What does everyone think of the finished product? (bar rubber)

why extended wheel studs? are you going for aspect arches?
Extended Studs so i can fit the alloys...

b3d846c3.jpg

The original studs are not long enough for these wheels/Nuts.(ABOVE) if i use extended studs like i am it will generally mean i can fit almost any wheel under these arches offset/spacers the lot!
and that makes me a happy Sheep.
:D

you can grind the tips/tops/ of the nuts to let the stud through,if you want
nice work
now shaun can sleep, not shaun the sheep.

I used to have a garage in a compound when nikki and I lived in a flat not far from where we live now. I bought a generator from B&Q when they were on offer, I've probably only used it half a dozen times but it has earnt its money. One of those occasions was in that compound away from the flat cutting the springs on my old merc.

last night i collected shauns boot lid to respray!

so here the progress

heres how it started
