For now this is really just a placeholder - I know not a lot of full lon rebuilds have been done/documented on here so I will add as many pics and specs as I can.
When I bought the car from smidge, it came with 2 things:
* Poor compression thru the rings and lots of oil leaks
* Spare motor
I was hoping to run the old motor for a while, while I built up the spare motor....however driving around at full boost with foot flat all the time rapidly accelerated (the problems ). Obviously Marty had been much nicer too it than me. Also I put a larger turbo on it (T28) which may not have helped...
Main symptoms were oil leaks from pretty much every seal, plus blowing absolute clouds of smoke in the mid range at full boost/full throttle. Oh and chewing through the oil.
Also, the dying cow sounded worse than factory ever could...and sure enough the bearings on the supercharger were rooted - off for a full reco including new bearings.
Dropped it to the mechanic to look at (Mark at Hills Motorsport in Castle Hill, Sydney is a genuis with all wierd japanese cars) and after trying to fix the blowby he told me to give up and start the new motor.
So....we ordered forged rods and pistons (0.5mm oversize) from a march specialist in japan, they arrived this week. The spare motor has been stripped and is off at the engine shop being measured and machined.
Also organising for the cam to be re-ground as per the specs from my new japanese st mate.
Anyway...that is the story to date. Realistically 8 weeks it wil lbe back on the road with results to report but I will try and make updates in between.
