    Cylinder Head Gasket

The steaming just got worse and I was losing all my water in a few miles. I managed to get a new gasket and fitted it today... Cylinder 2 was full of water/oil/gunk... and number 1 was pretty ropey too. It is a lot better now. The only freaky thing was that the electrode on plug #1 was...

    Cylinder Head Gasket

I noticed the other day that my K10 temperature was spiking a little in town traffic. I put the heater on to suck the heat out and it came down OK. For some reason both my K10s have needed new thermostats on a number of occasions and they always end up sticking. Anyway.. I had to motor up to...

My MoT garage says it is not required.

    Headlight relay

Thanks for the assist I will take a look. The relay in the engine compartment is the dim/dip thingy or something according to the Haynes.. and certainly I can unplug all wires from it and still get the righthand headlight on. The stalk eh.. oh buddha.

    Headlight relay

Still have a problem with my headlights. Relay buzzing and just the lefthand main beam is flickering. The RH side has no problems. The problem is intermittent though and sometimes they come straight on. I tried a replacement relay from a scrapper but it is still unreliable. I am not sure about...

    Paint

i have a replacement door my wife's K10 ... to match I will need to get it silver/grey. How hard is it to obtain the appropriate micra colours? Are they standard and off the shelf from Halfords or something? thanks

    Manual transmission oil leak

Yes.. is there a leak? It is kind of the lowest point and a good place for accumulated oil to drip off.. especially as you just changed the oil and presumably filter, and may have splashed a little onto the top of the gearbox..

    matrix

has anyone successfully re-attached a broken connector to a heater matrix? If so.. how. The plastic looks a bit stubborn to me and may not lend itself to epoxy or some kind of glass fibre/resin tourniquet.

burning oil - what is the common culprit??

I change the oil once every 1 or 2 years. All my assorted bangers have thrived on this austere treatment. Over the years they have all met their demise through corrosion and never engine failure so it would add to the running costs to feed them oil. It is the economic logic of the banger pilot...

    Gearbox SOS

The gearbox is a lot better now. The problem was one of the retaining bolt-spring-ballbearing combinations that engage with the selector shaft. It is now quite clear that the one involved must not be screwed entirely into the threaded hole but needs to be backed-off somewhat or else it locks...

    Cv joint question??

my local nissan scrapper did me a shaft with a CV at each end for £15

    Gearbox SOS

Latest news is that my passenger side inner CV is kind of knacked. It won't go in without a helluva lot of hammering and the lock ring won't even sit in the groove. I made an attempt to dress up the splines with a file.. but it doesn't look good. I might try again tonight with a small grinding...

    Gearbox SOS

Well i got my new hoist lol and wanted to play with it. Plus it was a lot easier to get it on and off with the engine out.. and there are a few other things to do. An exhaust stud has sheared off, and the timing belt cover has a big hole in it. Actually.. heaving the box in with the engine in...

    Gearbox SOS

Update on gearbox. I got myself a cheap hoist off eBay and it made the work a lot easier!! Getting the engine out was quite straightforward.. I didn't need to remove the fan/radiator as the Haynes manual said. One thing worth remembering is to make sure the movement range of the hoist setting...

    Cambelt failure

One of the nuts on the upper engine mount is a bit inaccessible. And I found the tensioner an utter swine.. it kept popping off and flinging the spring all over the shop. Personally I found the tensioning process quite difficult. One one cycle the belt was slack as hell and on a second turn it...

    Fitting that new Clutch !

Speaking of the smelly gear oil. Is there a way to drain the gearbox fully.. I mean with the plug out you still get quite a gush when you pull the driveshafts out. I am planning another dismantling soon and would like to avoid the savings on the garage bill being spent on new clothes. If one...

    Fitting that new Clutch !

I think the "things falling into the differential" was my fault... I didn't know that the drive gears were so insecure and I was fooling about turning the input shaft.. in the absence of the drive shafts to keep 'em in place, the rotation I was inputting led to the drive gears moving out of...

    water leak inlet manifold

Thanks for the tips. It is assembled already Bob.. but if my fix blows I will be happy to take you up on your kind offer. I am interested in the idea that my rad cap could cause overpressure.. is this because it won't lift and relieve the pressure into the expansion reservoir? Hmmmm maybe I...

    water leak inlet manifold

My wife's 1.0 K10 (K reg) sprang a leak and it seemed to be coming from underneath the carb. I took off the air filter and as the hoses were OK I deduced it was probably coming from one of the two joints between the carb and the inlet manifold. I wasn't even aware there was water circulating...
