K12 problems..

My girlfriends car has been playing up now for a while

The cold engine light stays on for ages when she first starts the car, then it will come back on half way through driving when the engine is clearly warm..

(Coolant maybe? ^^^)

And also the speedo needle keeps sticking during daily driving and has random jumps, i.e sticks at 25mph while stationary at traffic lights.. anyone have an idea?

I'd guess this is electrical. The needles on a K12 are just connected to stepper motors so something electrical is causing it. I'd check the connector plug to the dial binnacle thing first .
