Your Input about Clutches and Clutch change?

Morning all. Reading threads on clutch changes. Not done one for a while.

Ours is starting to squeal ... got a few months I think but just to get your input before that time. Always more fun doing jobs like that in the sun!

The threads I read have some great ideas how to approach but I'm wandering which set to buy. Go cheap and cheerful or worth to get a better brand? Can see compete kits on ebay between £28 and £217 for gen Nissan kit???? Will be keeping the car the distance so want to get it right but of course budget is a factor.

Also worth to change the cable and other associated components at same time?

Ours is a 95 base 1.0L base model and in good shape.

Also any videos or materials any of you done that help make it easy to approach? I saw some posts from Frank and others that were very helpful but keep to get any ideas and input to make sure it's a solid job.

Found a video for clutch change. Audio is in Polish but looks useful. Looks like he changes the flywheel as well. Is that a worthwhile thing to do? No experience of this.

Also looks like he replaces seals of some sort ... not quite sure what. Again is this worth to do or complicating the job? Hate doing things twice so if it's pain and cost worth going to then ok ..... what you reckon?

You want luk, clutch it's a oem basically
There's 2 others but cannot think off my head
Mine do makes weird noises once in awhile and it's been fine,
Just keep driving till the clutch starts to slip under load really

OEM equivalent such as Blue Print will suffice. Nice video, shame about the Pig Of A Clutch Job on a 1995 Micra that I would nickname Squealer?

Is Squealer worth it as I would consider sending this little “ Piggy Squealer” to market?

I can think of better ways of getting exorcise than spending my weekend on my back under an inanimate tin box Micra!

Yeah I think I have a good while to run yet but wanted prepare to shake any variables out come the time. And have had good experience with cheap and cheerful to date.

... did cross my mind .... but I am still a bit of a glutton for punishment in the car DIY department.....time is ticking till I start pushing things the way of the garage .... but don't mind if it's dry and warm.

Also in my case, I still like trying to show our kids that you can fix things yourself, save cash and get a certain amount of satisfaction from doing a job yourself whether it be cars, computers, decorating etc etc ..... It's not like they don't have the time ..... Facebook, Twitter, TV box sets, Xbox etc etc Always seems strange to me that those who have the most time seem to do the least for themselves ..... personal rant over!

I didn't watch the video but is suggest they didn't replace the flywheel generally there's no need, they might resurface it but even that should be rare. He probably removed it to install a new rear main seal, they are cheap and you may as well whilst your in there.

Thanks for the advice. The car has done a gentle 75k, not razzed (well maybe one daughter did a small amount!!!) but in general nothing to hint at replacement needed.

The seal you mention, what is that actually for? The audio was in Polish so I didn't really know Cheers

I skimmed through looks a drive shaft seal
Not always needed unless damaged or worn, same goes for the crank seal (kinda know to leak a little )
I'm on nearly 99k on my original clutch and it's still strong and set up tight (for a better clutch feel)
Just once in a while.the thrust bearing makes weird noises lol
Tbh rental miles don't really mean anything from what I've found

I'd pay a little bit more for a half decent clutch, from my experience fitting cheap clutches usually results in you taking it apart again a few months down the line because the release bearing starts whining. They just never seem to last.
Go with a brand you've heard of.
Good news is they are super easy to change on these, probably one of the easiest cars to do it on because the gearbox is so light.

Hi Ash, yes precisely the thing I'd like to avoid .... I've been pretty lucky overall with after market parts but would hate to be doing the job twice.

Any tips for getting the gearbox back on? Doing it on the floor with a jack etc and struggling to get it to line back up!
