Whistling Sound?

Hi there

I have a strange sort of whistling sound coming from the engine. I've been told it could be a dodgy bearing on one of the belts. Has anyone had anything like this happen? I also have a clattering noise which happens either when excellerating or now and again whilst idling. Loose heat shield? Any help would be much appreciated. My cars a 96 1.3 Lx.

i have a simliar sound, been told its the alternator, mainly happens when in neutral but also when the clutch isnt pressed.
