which way's easier for doing a clutch ?

is it easier ( or even possible ) to lift the engine out the top of a micra leaving the gearbox drive shaft's etc etc in place when doing a clutch ...

and is there enough room at the side to be able to split engine and box in the engine bay then lift engine up and replace clutch and drop the lump back in job done

or is it better to just drop the box

problem is my mate's clutch started slipping really badly  and as it happen's i dont have a socket big enough for the drive shaft's :( in fairness i could alway's go out and buy one but just thought it would be easier just to lift the lump out the top if it's possible (Y)

it's a ' R ' reg 1000cc :glare:

thank's for the advice (Y) but dont suppose you would know if it is possible to split the engine in the bay and lift it out .... just the way i've alway's done it where possible and seem's the easier way to me

Do as me and frank do, leave everything in, just split the 'box and move it over to the side so you can get in and change the clutch

The socket you would require for the driveshafts is 32mm (was on mine anyway). Surely it would be easier to buy one socket than take the engine out of the bay?? Or if you follow superls's advice you wont have to undo those nuts anyway, so no need to buy the socket or lift the engine(Y).

thank's for the advice guy's and girl's :grinning:

so just to clear it there's enough room to undo the bolt's holding on the engine and undo the engine mount's and move the engine over to gain enough access to get into the clutch and change it

or is it move the gearbox over without undoing the shaft's :glare:

its best to leave the engine mount on, and there,s some info here :) http://www.micra.org.uk/showthread.php?t=32227

ahh thank's , i still dont understand the logic of being able to drop the box with the shaft's in place but i suppose i'll understand better when i get to it ...

thank's
