which plugs are which?

Hi All, Which plug are which that is a question? to ask as I will soon be replacing the HT leads on my 1998 k11 dis: and want to know which number they are so I can match up the HT leads. Like which number is the shortest cable ie no: 1 or 4 etc, just incase I muddle any up. There are plenty of youtube clips all about replacing the distributor & arm and the one I will copy tells you & shows you how to plug in you HT leads from the old disp: on to the new one, but I would like to know which plug cable number is which. Can anyone HELP.

Why do you want to know? Just replace them one by one and you can’t go wrong.

They always start from cambelt/chain end first, so No. 1 is drivers side and then work across.

While the above is true, I throw in my cables and shafts en let them hang loose. Then the lowest on the distributer (the one that is the hardest to reach) will be 3 and 4. I usually put those in first then 2 and 1. Fix the shafts on to the spark plugs, start the engine, not running well no harm done, find the misplaced cabling and start again.

Starting and running ok? Decide which cable goes where to those side brackets at 3 and 4 and unclutter possibly cluttered cabling at the cap, make it neat, you are done!

This might no be very logical but it does the job. It helps you without trying out many times to get the cables also neat looking and at the corect holders and non cluttered cap.

Not yet as the MOT note mentioned they were slightly noisey so I'll wait until i need to replace them and anyway "superuno" said that he had used a impact wrench to lossen the 32mm nut so I can do that later.

The dizzy cap is numbered so are the stock leads ,
Also unless failing or upgrade stock leads hold quite well in time and performance
Also wheel bearing did one the other day , cracked the nut off and it just pulled off no bother and same back on and a chissle and hammer it to lock, ,
Tbh some times with a k11 unless it's failing, going to fail or service alot the time the old/original parts can last a life time of the car ,

Do mind that not all caps are numbered. I also had one that had the wrong numbers (I think it was a bosch or blueprint one) So check it before pulling off all the leads

The best method now that photos are digital and cameras are cheap, is just take as many photos as you can while you're fixing something so you can refer back to it if you forget where something went

Even better, take a video. Lots of the car restoring channels on youtube refer back to their own videos from months ago so they can assemble the car again after it has been sitting in pieces for years
