what torque wrench?

Belly93

to turbo or new lump :/ hmmm
What torque wrenches do people use? Im looking to buy a torque wrench as im rebuilding my spare engine but unsure what is a good buy, don't mind spending a decent amount as it will be used at work working in a garage,

What would people suggest?

for afew years I've been using this cheap £24 traditional click type wrenches from machine mart
http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/p...drive-torque-wrench?da=1&TC=SRC-torque+wrench

Good:
  • very low cost

Bad:
  • only accurate within a certain torque setting region
  • machanism grease inside gunks up over years which could affect readings
  • must alreadys remember to zero the torque setting before storage otherwise the spring will deform permanantly and result in inaccurate readings
all 3 facts I found out here

for the engine head/crank/bigend bolts you'll prob need an angle gauge too for another £12

Now recently I brought myself a proper £100 electronic torque gauge with an angular measure feature built in

maybe abit expensive at first but worth every penny imo

Good:
  • several torque & angle values can be preprogrammed and switched to at a push of a button
  • no need to zero setting after use cos its just a strain gauge = simply use and forget = stays accurate for longer
  • convenient built in gyro angle gauge = just set the initial torque, switch to the pre-set angle mode, continue tightening till it beeps to confirm the correct angle

yup buy the best tools u can afford, look after them like family and they'll last a long time, allow u to finish the job faster n consistantly
