So I have been working my ass off, new job, I build motion simulators for professionals (race and flight), on the side I have been hitting the car quite hard, I shall post some photos of her new look soon.

Not sure tbh track time is mega expensive. We could do a couple of events for one track day. However does sound mega awesome eh. Later on in the year it would be a defo.

August/September time next one. Gives everyone time to do some more building/testing
Then next year we'll do a few more tings :)

me I'm planning on doing afew shake down trackdays to get car all ironed-out ready for trip to nurburgring in July/Aug.
so blyton park 9th/11th April all-day open-pit lane session £135, then prob donnington open-pit in June 5th £215

sounds clever tbh, look forward to hitting the track with you all.

on another note, had a camera in the engine today, what do you guys think?

me too.

piston dampness looks similar to mine, here's my vid from last yr.

does urs smoke abit in the morning and then clear once warm?

Yeah pretty much Paul, don't loose coolant or oil though it seems. Weird! Stock engine and pistons mind. I want to have it apart to give it a once over, I will shove another engine in as I want to start mapping myself in the future.

Frank, bit of vapour but not huge amounts. I feel that piston three looks like it has some scarring... Might be an issue. See how it goes. Probs going back to na for a while. Mega squirt at some point so want to learn on an first.

Tbh I am doing everything. Once I build a 250/300 HP 1.3 engine+t I will go time attack, but I need to learn how to drive to be honest. I wanna get experience In all the realms of car based stuff which is applicable to the Micra. Just not banger racing lol. I wanna use the car and its good for me and bethan to do stuff together. Plus turbo Micra rally car just sounds funny pushed up the bum of a Scooby. I wish!

Just caught up the rest of the posts
Going for time attack eh. Chances are you'll be in my class then which should make for some good fun

My advice is go for auto tests its the quickest way to learn the characteristics of the car
Tarmac rallying is much like sprints. One blast no practice relying on your Co driver to get you around
Keep your end goal focused
Night rallies are the best foelr competitive fun and so cheap. Plus you need not make any special modifications which you will to suit other disciplines :)

Well the end goal is to develop my driving and car. The events should just be a bi product. Done a 12 car n been practising with Bethan, she needs to read as fast as a drive, or I need to slow down. The future holds many auto tests, sprints, tarmac and the rest. Just have fun and build a strong car, learns some stuff along the way.

Awesome stuff. Get signed up for those track days of ours :)
That auto test me and Paul did last year is being set up again soon too

Only just seen your reply Chris, the trackday me and polly are doing at Blyton is costing 109, a rally costs circa 800
What rallies are you doing, the entry fee (not total cost) for most stage events is around £200-250 per event. Christ Wales Rally GB only cost £900 last year!!!!

Grass Autotests are where I learnt most of my driving skills, great fun, low costs as well. A Turbo Micra should be Top 10 really on most clubman stage rallies. We finished 17th on the last one I did, which was wet ended beating 2.5Ltr BMW's etc... But as you say you need to learn how to drive the car. Come over to ours when the car is done we can go out in the lanes and I can do some tuition if you want - I used to work at Brands / MSV Rally School for years.

IF the car is running there is a autosolo (faster type of autotest) at Finmere at the end of the month we are about to enter. Also we are entering Abingdon Stages.

In terms of focus, a solid (and reliable) car should be the goal. I have now gone for no more real development apart from slight tweeks here and there to keep the car (touch wood) reliable, easy to drive, easy to pre event prep / post event prep (1/2 days work after the last stage rally). Speed comes from seat time.....!

Hence why i sold by bike carbs kit, 10/15 more horses would have made me a bit quicker but at the risk of a less driveable car, more stress on the engine / gearbox and less money to spend on doing events!

Was talking more about how a rally tends to place a lot more stress on a car than a trackday, meaning more parts will wear etc and due to the competitive nature the overall costs are higher as you want your car perfectly prepared to help you win :p

Think they're basically saying keep it simple and enjoy it. Attempting to do everything means you'll always fight to be average in each discipline. It can get disheartening at times

Getting competitive forces you down alleyways and shapes your car and your driving style. After years of laughing at fragile track fairies from my rallying high horse, I'm giving it a go in Time Attack. But I wouldn't expect to be competitive until 2017. But I highly doubt then that it'll be suitable for road rallies and auto tests because it's too focused

Last stage rally cost me £20 in tyres, £18 for a set of front pads, ~£15 oil (free filter) and about £80 in fuel.... Its all about spending your money wisely.... ;)

Agreed though true competitive motorsport is likely to be more stressful then driving around on a trackday....

Key thing is get there enjoy the car and get seat time (in any event) as this is what will lead to improved results.

At the end of the day, it's all about having a laugh in a car :p can do that at either event, I just find trackdays a fair load cheaper
