Super S Engine, left outside not starting! little help needed

Hi everyone

Just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction. As most of you know my Super S got riddled with rust and i decided to break if for parts. I have still got the shell with the engine (no bonnet) I covered the engine with an old thick curtain and a full car cover.. it has been covered form months or so.

I wanted to start her up as im looking to get a 1.0 litre micra and do a 1.3 conversion to it. After a long time i thought ill give the 1.3 a start. It doesnt want to start, even tried hooking up the almera gti to it aswell but no luck. After putting the immobiliser key in and then the key in start, while trying to start it nothing happens, just a click and that's it and plus the immobiliser light gives up the light until i let go.

Since taking the curtain and car cover off, the curtain was wet and the engine might have gotten water into the spark plug entries. Can anyone tell me what i should do to get the Super S 1.3 working again? (im not very mechanically minded im just learning as i go along, so please explain in enough detail for me to understand)

Thanks in advance MSC
Hopefully ill be back on here for good soon and give my Almera GTi a rest

sounds like an dead battery, sometimes even a jump start wont get it going again, get your battery tested, id say the resent cold weather has broken a cell in it and its knackered...

thanks will try and get a another battery from somewhere.

Anything else i need to check about the engine being in the cold weather??

yep, the cold weather knackered batterys in two of my vans! :(

also, once checked over for water entry, grab a can of BRADEX 'easy start' squirt abit down the air-intake, give it a few seconds to evaporate (while you put the filter back on) then give it a crank (provided the engine does crank with a fresh battery) its an ethanol spray that just helps kick an engine into life ;) works every time for me (on cruddy escort vans with 250k+ miles lol)

some new information found

The battery needs distilled water as there is nothing when i unscrew the caps - will be getting it topped up before the weekend
Plus when i put the immobiliser key in and the the key in acc possition its fine but as soon as i turn it to ON position a noise of wooshing occurs and then stops
turning the key to start position the whooshing stops and as you all know it doesnt start.

Using my multimeter i tested the battery and gives around 11.48V which im guessing is alright

As soon as i have time off from work ill go get some supplies for bradex (thanx mojo micra), and distilled water to top up the battery.

I also checked the dizzy, wiped it down but was not wet at all and the leads look brand new as i remember changing them recently before i broke the car

One more thing, the starter motor im not sure about, as i keep thinking if i removed it or not and how many wires are attached to the starter. It has a large thick wire connected and i keep thinking there should be another wire with it, am i thinking right?

Its been a long time, and i cant remember! Dont know how im gonna try swopping an engine!

There should be a thin 'excitor' wire from the ignition switch, also if your battery has so little electrolite in it the battery could have a dying or dead cell. good battery voltage should be around 12.5v, if in a vehicle running it should be up to 14.5v

Ok everyone! I know i havent been on here in ages, i kinda gave up on the car as i have no time to start the engine... now that i have time i can try again. Since I last posted i removed the starter motor and tested it with a fully charged Almera 2.0 battery and the starter motor whizzes around like normal and so does the solonoid (work properly)...

Using the Almera GTi battery, connected to the Super S, i have the same problem... i hear the fuel pump humming like normal but when i flick the ignition nothing happens. Now id like to know where to go from here.. Distributor? < this was replaced around 3 months after leaving the car! so in total its been new since 18 months... i think?!

Can anyone help? Im keen to learn as im looking to buy another 1.0 micra to help reduce the massive whole in my pocket while running the Almera GTi.

Thanks in advance

its worth cheking the ignition switch also
does the squence work correctly when you turn the key 1clik-2click-then start3rdclick ???

The sequence clicking is ok, as when the key in inserted turn once and it click, turn again it click and the whining noises of the fuel pump engages and the last click nothing happens. im taking the distributor out to look for some moisture or water, taking the cap off and checking the rotor.. worst case for the distributor is get another on 2nd hand.

Are there any tests i can do to check if it works ok?

Thanks R-REG-SR
