Rust remover?

Bought some replacement front shocks of Phil (cheers again) a few weeks ago. Of course, down to age of car ect, there is rust on them.

Is there a big problem of using rust remover (like Rust In Peace), then just sanding, priming and repainting them black or so? Will it weaken them in any way or...

Dont see why it would cause a problem, tbh it should just be light surface so may just sand off anyway and go straight to good metal.
