Rough engine breaking + sqeak on acceleration

Just a couple of questions..

1. When in low gears (1+2 primarily), engine breaking seems harsh and lumpy? is this normal?

2. Sometimes when i accelerate sharply, i've started hearing a sqeak somewhere, sounds like it could be external due to the jerky movement of the car.. any ideas? (a mate said it could be exhaust moving a little)

Any light shed on this would be good

hmm check the condition of all the engine mounts to see if any have perished
