Redline on a 1.0L K10

Courior

Fat ppl r harder 2 kidnap
i have the LS model and it doesnt have a rev counter. im going to get one and fit it (aftermarket one) but its not much good if i dont know what the redline is. So my question. On a Bog Standart K10 1L engine (4spd manual) 1989, what is the redline? thanks :)

Courior

PS: i did try and search for this with no joy.

wow that was some fast replys guys!!! excellent!! the one im getting has a redline of 7 so gotta open it up and colour it all in red!! hehe. cheers people. excellent help!

7K is a good limit for your rev counter, as ive taken mine to that in my K10 ;) LOL

I hope i'm in your car when u blow the engine up, coz i can't wait to laugh my head off an say i told u so!!!! :p

Oh that's so harsh!!!!

Not when i've told him 50,000 times and he hasn't listened!!!! :p

Oh, as well as most of the regular members on here have told him too!!

7K is pointless, as I have explained to arnold many times, it doesn't make you faster!

But it loves it!!! :p

It only goes to 7K on a poor gear change anyway, usually change now at 5.5/6K

Besides, Yesterday - Ems had a go in my car and drove it pretty much exactly like i do, and said 'i can understand why you drive the way you do, as it has no ooomph, (or something like that)

Well i went out in hers and shock horror, i liked the 1.2!! LOL, so im tempted to get one of those. Felt a bit quicker than my 1.0, but not sure if it would take the punishment i give it!

Shame u won't actually admit that it's faster tho!!! But i don't have a problem with beating u on the strip so bring it on!!! :p

Right then.... so i shall get busy with the red pencil and make my redline 6K :) .... dont these engines have rev limiters??

hehe 6K seems so low! my mates 1000cc motorbike redlines at 14K and my 1200 redlines at 11K. i thought a car engine would be tougher!

No!!! Coz it's got more to pull!!! I think!! Where's Ed lol!!

Bike engines can always take alot more than cars tho, they're moving far less weight for a start

And no, K10's dont have rev limiters! (mine should) If you take it to 8K or beyond, it wont last for much longer!

And if u take it near 8k it won't go much longer either!!! :p

Na thats madness! I'd never do anything that silly ;) Besides, if she blows, it gives me an excuse to get the 1.2! Will have to get used to the lower redline on that tho.

Oh, Ems also said my brakes are really crap!! Will get those vented ones fitted soon when speedle gets his bum in gear.

I think ive taken mine pretty high judging "by ear". Usually change when I hear something rattle o_O . I remember loosing power at the higher end once. I guess this was around 6-7?

I have no tachometer on my K11 either - but I just keep going until I feel the power peak then shift. Was thinking of getting an upmarket dash to include the rev counter and get it all wired up but its far too much hasle to start all that.

Again something I only measure by feel lol

Usually that bit just before the rattle has plenty of power

lol u dunno if the cat has broken up as when i lift off it dies i know a guy with a beamer who had the same problem ahh mot next 2 weeks so ater that no more cats

Did they do K10's with cats? Never knew that!

I think 6000rpm is a revvy little ###### for an 8 valve carb'd engine. Thinking of popping a tach in myself, got one of those olde stylee ones to put in out of my old escort (Y)

lol its the eastiest thing ever, unscrew one and screw in the new one. they are just impossible to source

You don't need a cat on a K10 to pass a MOT

6000 is ok, but its pointless going that high because theres no power up there. you'll find that poiwer will start to tail off at around 5400, probably 5600 if you have the high compression one, and around 5200 if you have an MA12.

Arnold - you wont get any better braking performance from having vented disks you know..............

I know they wont make me brake any better however

In automobiles, fade, or brake fade is the reduction in stopping power caused by a buildup of heat in the braking surfaces (and in the case of drum brakes the change in dimension of components in response to heat; the curvature of the brake shoes then failing to match the curvature of the brake drum)
(cheers to james for that)

Besides, i already have the disks from Kev & the calipers are coming my way this weekend

wired a tacho in my K10 last week, revs to 6K happily.

slim- indeed power will peak at a lower RPM than when you change, but if you hold then change gear you will be using all the power around the peak- the rise before it and the tail off afterwards. if you change gear at peak power the revs will drop to a point much lower on the power curve.

EG my other car has been rolling roaded and pumps out max BHP at 6480, but I rev it to 7K (well, 7,200 in second) to keep it wound up

either way, i wouldnt bother about revving them too much, because they get very wheezy.

arnold - choose you pads carefully, they make the biggest difference of all mate. get hold of some standard mintex ones, they have a very good bite. stay awat from ferodo.

on a note of fade, most fade usually comes from boiling your brake fluid.

Wasnt he in lord of the rings?

I've had frauds ones fitted for the past year, what are your opinions on them? They seem to work for me, but Ems went in my car and said she felt like it had no brakes! I got the mechanic to check them yesterday for its MOT and he said they were fine.

Where can i get mintex ones from?

Cheers mate

That's a myth. Brake fade is mainly due to the friction of the pad changing, due to various mechanisms, as the temperature rises. Brake fluid has a very high boiling temperature, and it is only really water contained in the fluid that will boil. You can recognise this by a spongy pedal, whereas the pads fading will just be a lack of breaking power.

The SAE have guidelines on fade. Some pad materials are modified to fade at an lower temperature than otherwise necessary, as pad fade is more predictable and easy to recover from than boiling brake fluid.

LMAO no Ferodo do make brake pads :p

I have mintex pads on my uprated discs, they seem pretty good! :) Ed got them from the guy just up the road so I assume theyre easy to get hold of

And they are bad, i bet he didn't check them properly!!! But your getting them changed so i'll let u off!!!

You havent even watched it and you say that!! the cheek..

I asked him to check them and change them if they wouldnt pass the MOT. The MOT wasnt actually done by him, he takes it somewhere else - so two people have given it the OK. Maybe i just have a different 'feel' pedal like my clutch!? lol

I have watched it, i just thought it was poo

And it's not the 'feel', they don't work!!! I only just stopped b4 the end of the junction!!!! :p

lol i was doin that but wired in a tacho and its only 3k

mine rattles at the cat has anyone had one break up yet?

I had my cat break up, but not on my micra. Was on my 7 series and its got two great big cats at 1000quid a pop! Had to replace the two oh them as they were both shot!

ive got a bog standed 1.0 k10 LS 1990 on a G plate i have no rev counter on mine the easter way arround it is listen 2 the engine i do it all the time

yea, my dash rattles like a fiend then once i get a little higher in the rpm and it stops rattling, i shift lol... but listening to the engine is definately the #1 technique, cause then you're not staring at your tach waiting for it to hit the right rpm instead of watching the road!

Yes the 1.2 likes to rev lower which gives me the feeling that the gearbox is closer (its the same) because you change up through the first few gears faster.

And the only time i have had brake fade was when there was only 1mm left on my front pads. Never felt quite as nice after I changed to halfords pads so I wouldn't recommend those. I don't know whats on my Super S but the brakes are nice!
