Question about the "Oil filter"

Hello,

I've recently drained the oil and changed it, (but was later told the oil filter in this car is ancient) I assumed it was new but they later told me it's years old...
I'm helping a friend fix up 2001 K11 Manual Micra.

Now my question is this.

Can i take the filter off and just put a new one? or will the oil come gushing out on me? bare in mind that oil inside the car is brand new like today lol

The filter i got for the K11 is this one.

yes you can simply replace the filter if the oil is still new.
tiny bit of oil will trickle out so have a tray ready underneath.
