Problems with handbrake dashboard light

Hi everyone, my Mum's Micra ('98 1.3 16v) has developed a fault where the handbrake light on the dashboard, will sometimes come on when the handbrake is down. Is there a way of checking the sensor?

Any dot 4 will do

Right, I've had a look at the brake fluid, and it's topped all the way up! What else could be causing this problem, then? Cheers people ; )

Have you replaced the brakes recently? If not might be worth doing so, or you could just try bleeding the brakes

mine looked full too, but when i added some fluid the light went out

The fluid was over the "plunger" in the container. Is this how yours was, before you put the fluid in?
