I HAVE A 1994 K11. THE BATTERY DIED THE OTHER DAY SO I GOTA NEW BATTERY AND GOT THE ALTERNATOR TESTED. IT WORKS FINE.
ON THE POSITIVE TERMINAL CLAMP THERE IS A RED BOX WHERE TWO WIRES PLUG IN. ONE IS THE ALTERNATOR CHARGING WIRE (I SUPPOSE) AND THE OTHER IS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE ENGINE, IF YOU UNPLUG IT THEN THE CAR DIES.

WELL I GOT A VOLT METER AND TESTED THE VOLTAGE OF THE BATTERY WHEN THE CAR WAS OFF, IT READ 12.4 ish. WHEN I START THE CAR IT STAYS THE SAME (PRESUMABLY IT ISNT CHARGING THE BATTERY).

WHEN I PUT THE METER ON THE ALTERNATOR OUTPUT IT IS READING 14.2ish.

IF I UNPLUG THE WIRE FROM THE RED THING ON THE BATTERY CLAMP AND PUT THE TESTER ON IT THEN IT ALSO READS 14.2ish.

SO IF THE ALTERNATOR IS UNCLIPPED FROM THE BATTERY IT WORKS BUT AS SOON AS I PLUG IT BACK ONTO THE BATTERY IT DOESNT CHARGE.


CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME WHAT COULD CAUSE THIS

The lead that goes from the negative on the battery to the body/ engine. You aren't putting the negative test lead straight on the battery are you?
 
It's cos your battery isn't fully charged, it's putting a drain on the alternator, Check the amps between the terminals when the engine is running, be careful as the amps will be high (up to 100A).

I Didnt In The End. I Notice My Volt Meter Wasnt Capable.

I Went Out For A Longt Run And It Seems To Run Fine. I Put The Volt Meter To It After The Run And It Was Running 11.73 Volts. Does Anyone Know What It Is Supposed To Be??

Sorry I Forgot To Mention But When The Battery Is Flat The Car Runs Really Really Lumpy And It Wont Rev Up At All. I Am Making An Assumption But Is This Something To Do With Ecu And Injection Etc With The Low Battery Power.
 
I Thought It Was. I Brought The New One And It Ran For About 30 Miles Then It Died Again So I Charged The Battery Today And Have Done About 10 Miles. It Working Fine At The Moment. Lol Dunno How Much Longer Its Going To Go. Its Annoying Coz I Get Worried When I Leave My Street That Its Going To Die Miles From Home. I Might Have To Send It Into A Garage
 
I Took The Alternator To A Place That Specialises In Them. They Got It Working Fine.
It Gives Out The Right Power Untill I Plug It Into The Battery Clamp.then The Power Across The Battery Stays The Same
 
If You Write In Caps Does It Not Change It To Intial Caps Automatically ? Test Test Test

Should Mods Not Know How The Forum Works ? Lol
