PistonHeads.com: Renault launches sporty Clio

Test drove a 197 and thought it wasn't as driveable as the 182 or 172. Very good brakes but the lack of torque was a dissapointment. It seems the extra 15bhp has come at quite an expense of low end torque. You have to rev the heck out of it to get it to go anywhere and when you do, the powerband is too narrow.

Perhaps I'm a bit picky......test drive cars can be tight, lets hope they free up after 10K miles.

Dave, it seems the trend for people to want cars to be all revvy, maybe that's why Renault have tuned the engine in such an aggressive fashion.

I know my bike has a de-tuned cam to make less power but to have more torque at the lower end and oh how fantastic it is but people want it all up top.

Give me a big thumpy engine any day.
