I sent the specs off to Total Seal in the Uk got this email back today:

Hi Barry
Total Seal could supply a set, it would be conventional (not gaplesss) and cost £136 + VAT per 4cyl set.

Are you sure? When I last spoke to Dave he could only supply cast iron compression rings that would not take the kind of stresses needed for the ST.

Can you explain why Ed, I sent him all the specs for the rings
What are the st rings made from?

Ed I've edited the post as I'm sick to my back teeth with your vague posts. . .do you want to help me out or what?If not stay out of the thread thanks

Barry

Barry, you have got chill out quite why you expect me to spoon feed you when all you have to do is a bit of your own research is beyond me.

The purposes of my post are to give you helpers not spell it out for you in black and white.

I'll leave you to do it on your own from now on.

I don't excpect you to spoon feed me Ed but your posts are not constructive this is a club after all

Anyway waiting to hear back from Dave, don't hink he knows himself whats materials in them.
Was talking to matt humphries today about it said the best thing is to send him a piston and he might be able to do something.

I was thinking about your predicament and thought maybe you could look at cryotreatment for the rings if you can only get cast iron ones. I've known two people who had their whole engine treated and they both swear by it. One guy had a race built evo 8 which he had to rebuild twice a season, got it cryo treated at the start of a season and didnt need to rebuild it once that season. It might be a viable option but I dunno what cost is like, I think they said approx $1800 to do a whole engine. Just thought I'd mention it in case you wanted to investigate that option.

Don't think it available in this country

Baz if you find out what Ed was (as usual) cryptically on about, please post :)

google is your freind :) ductile iron, chrome molly etc, and we used to use cords rings in the 70,s (they had a recess/step around the top ring, so that it would,nt shatter when it hit the wear lip around the top of the bore )

baz replacing ring on worn engine does not guarantee that they will seal. I know the lads on here will talk about putting balls and sticks down the bores to rough up the bores again ye only good for about 2,000 miles. You need to get the bores checked out size wise if the bore is more than 7th of an inch bigger than the piston you are looking at getting the an over bore done or getting liners put into the block to bring the bore back down to the standard size.

Last time the block was honed about 20k kms ago and It was fine she sealed up perfect. I know what your saying alright, Seen a set of Brand new figaro pistons and rings on ebay from a specialist ,could bore the block to suit the figs pistons? Don't know is this will affect the compression ratio though.

She will be a few extra cc aswell

ye i would then look at getting the over sized pistons for it then it'll still be under 1.0l aswell so you be alright.

though there no one in ireland that good at boring blocks out.
