Oh no I think my gearbox is whinning...literally!.
Constant noise especially in 4th and 5th, like a metallic ringing and still audible if knocked out of gear and cruising at 50ish in neutral.
Gearbox and gear change as smooth as ever, with no clunking, graunching or popping out of gear etc. Really want the car to last 1 more year as I have just splashed out on another car.
I take it this is a gearbox out job. Any ideas on cost and whether the noise is 'just' one bearing. Just had a look in the Haynes on gearbox removal and I nearly caused myself an anusism!
Will an oil change to a thicker oil shut it up for a while?
