Nissan security indicator

Newbie here
Just got a Micra and only noticed today that when key is out or ignition is off the red light flashes on left of dash (car with a key through middle ),is this just telling me it's working or something that's gonna cost me ?

when you take the key out do you quickly pull it or slowly ?

I suppose I would say quick,would that have an effect ?

Try pulling key out very slowly. then if the litul led is still flashing it's probably a security measure
