My Nan's Micra build.

'Do the 1.4s have oil problems'

In a nutshell, yes.

I'm no expert on the matter (ask one of the gods on here about it in further detail), but my understanding of it is that Renault messed about with the design of the oil control rings in the CGA3DE and they wear away a lot quicker and fail. My CGA went around 84k, Fujiwara_Ben put a CGA in his brother's 1.0 K11C which was on around 90k and it drinks so much oil its not even funny, and if you notice theres very few CGA engines for sale that have over 90k on them. Willsta3000 on here has around 170-180k on his 1.3 CG13DE, and the engine is still going strong.

Hope this helps.

Also, if you want a reliable 1.4, put a 1.3 or 1.0 block and pistons into the mix and 2 head gaskets and you can keep the coilpack and high lift cam goodness, whilst retaining an amount of reliability. My 1.4 ate its bottom end due to lack of oil

ahh thanks
well adleast its good to know my 1,3 will last lol
i just bought a 1.4 sport+ on a impulse buy (its to fix up ect.) and read a few stories about them and was wondering

Fujiwara_Ben popped by earlier and pulled the loom out of the mx5, I'm off to Norfolk for work stuff for the weekend. Legend.

Engine back in for tunnel building.

Turns out we've got a subframe clearance issue. Twice. Engine is too tall to go in the engine bay without hitting the bonnet, And the sump is hitting the subframe

Had to notch the bulkhead to get the cam position sensor to clear. Hoping it doesn't hit the wiper arm. May yet try to move the wiper assembly further back in the scuttle to make more room for the engine. Trying to find room for a radiator.

Maybe an intercooler some time

Till tomorrow, Andrew.

Took the sump off today to have a little look at it. Think we can get away with moving the oil pickup upwards by 30mm and doing the same with the bottom of the sump. We've been struggling for clearance on the bonnet and subframe for a while.

Today, I tacked an engine mount to a bit of box.

And put it through a bandsaw

And got this.

Moved it over 50mm and cut a bit out with the plasma to access the bolt hole

Tacked it in, welded to box again but at an angle to get the flange on the subframe side off. 6mm plate to move it over 65mm for a total of 115mm. Also moved subframe side flange down 10mm to clear everything and pull the width between mounts back in. Ended up with this once fully welded. I'll eventually reverse jig it and make another one. Till then, this will do for the rest of the build.

Did some alignment today. Chassis is straight and seen that the rear subframe (is only roughly bolted in, no captive nuts or bolts yet) is 9mm out from one side to the other relative to the front of the car. Easily sorted in the next few days.

Needed this clever arrangement of box section and clamps to position the new sill boxes (I'm widebodying the car a bit)

Cue the haters... tractor axle stands.

Widebody ish. Thinking of going more parallel to the door, but a lot more effort.

Lack of progress excuse [HASHTAG]#9000[/HASHTAG]

Rebuilding a Massey Ferguson muck spreader from the 70s(?)

Also bought a car trailer today, hoping to have that back on home soil by the weekend. Preparing to drop £200 in steel to get it how I want it

Trying to get the inner arch profile worked out.

Got Fujiwara_Ben and his K10 coming to live at the unit for the week, so I've got to get my nans micra out for a week to make space. Needed to get the muck spreader out of the way too, so we cracked out the big Colchester down the farm today. 5mm throwout on a chain drive shaft. Cue the big hammer and a DTI

Quick update. Ben's been in the unit all week with his cg13 powered K10, I'll leave some of the details for him to post on his blog. All I did was modify the chassis mount for the drivers side engine mount. Photos to follow.

However. If you look at the first post on this thread, you'll see my first micra. Y749RPP.

Today was a bad day.

We found out that it had been torched in the night.

I went and recovered it on the trailer for them, and this is how it stands now.

Whoever did this, I hope you find whatever satisfaction you were looking for when you did this, because for you to do this you must have a really deep hole in your life that is devoid of pride and hard work, so you feel the need to deprive others of theirs.

Today was a sad day.

Sadly mindless vandalism, 50 or 60 years ago this sort of behaviour just didn't happen, perhaps it was because kids left school and almost without exception went straight into a job and also there was corporal punishment in schools and there was more respect for people/authority? God how this country has changed in my life time!:(

That is awful, mindless destruction just for the sake of it. And even if its known who they are nothing would really happen sadly.

The last week or two, in a nutshell. Nowhere near home to even think about working on the micra.

Drove a telehandler a lot

And that was about it. Progress should start up again after the 9th of this month as that's when the agricultural show is done and dusted

Ouch. 3 weeks since last update. (Killed my phone big time, frontera front hub being dropped on it didn't help)

Soooo...

For a number of reasons, I've decided to start certain bits of the build again.

Namely, I bought *another* MX5, my mate put it into a tree. It's on tein coilovers, hardtop etc etc etc. Wanted £300 for it.

Plus, it's got good brakes, subframe free of rot and was otherwise very well looked after. The original donor car... well, anyone who's got me on Facebook knows why it got ripped apart and chucked under a Micra. Donuts, donuts and some more donuts.

Since I last wrote an update, couple things have happened. I put an AW11 back on the road for someone, welding sills and sorting out their electrical system. I've messed with more taxis than I care to remember (pays the bills), played with all manner of farm vehicles.

And got broken into.

So I'm currently down my 2 battery impact wrenches. It happens.

Killed a grinder and bought a couple more.

Crashed the CMax into the back of a brand new audi, £480 insurance claim, got off lightly.

Will update when I get the new mx5 on home soil

Also, I've got a NON NATS wiring loom for sale if anyone wants it, message me via FB. Ill remove this little gem once it sells, don't want people 9 years down the line asking me if I've still got it.

Will update when I get the new mx5 on home soil

Not sure where to find you on FB, but interested in the loom...

120am I finished at the unit, family friend blew the head on their CG10 povvo spec micra but was insistent on having it fixed. Bought another facelift with running engine for 30 quid.

Banging.

Think I'm dragging Fujiwara_Ben and Willsta3000 down tomorrow to help me rip the engine out of both, they're always easier with more hands.
