That thing is totally RWD because the rear wheels certainly aren't locked up, that is a micra power slide! :p Nice. Love the Kansai area.

RWD is a different kind of fun. Both types have their advantages and i have driven both on the edge. Love thrashing the micra around a track but i also loved entering drift comps in the Skyline.

A mate who's big into drifting here in WA has been giving me stick for replacing my R31 coupe with a micra. saw him last night and he mentioned he'd seen the video and noticed the K11 before i said anything! he's keen to do a RWD conversion on one now.
He figures that if the Japs have done it and are drifting it to that standard its a worthwhile project. and he's been looking for an unusual car to drift.

He wants to put S13 running gear in, i'm undecided whether to agree or suggest to him that a FWD front cut grafted into the back would be the go, pro's and con's for both setups.

Fabrication isn't a problem for me and he's a mechanic who owns a shop so between us its do-able, does anyone know if this car in the video is front engined or rear?

just saw this video posted on speedhunters.com, i had a big smile on my face when i saw this little march fly by.

its probarly one of those sr20det powered rwd modded marches. i have a spare shell at home i often thought about doing it.
must be really funny to drive.

The only 4wd micra reference i can find is the mid engined vq30 powered one built for rally or K12 models, is there a production version?

think i'll start looking for a wrecked or really cheap S13 donor, thinking the whole rear subframe, strut towers, floorpan and everything can be grafted in, keep the same track width and just cut and weld rear quarters like the escort X-pack or fiberglass bodykit like the MG Metro 6R4 to cover the wheels.

Thought about that too AB, but would prob be easier to adapt a Z-Cars kit to rear engine form or, cut the floor completely off the micra, cut and shut S13 floorplan to the right length, then brace the crap out of it, weld body back on ...

im pretty sure thats still just a FF micra, notice he's sliding with the civic and the other black ute thing (not sure what it is). FF drift isnt an uncommon thing these days over there, there are two that drift in the MSC challange (drift comp.) frequently and are still FF. if im wrong than its win for community but if not then we can still dream. its on my list of cars to build.

you dont want to rear mount the engine for drift use, thats the reasion why MR2's arnt used very often in drift, short wheel base like Kp61 starlets and ke70's etc... make the car very twichy in a slide, take the weight thats usually in front of you and put it behind you and it almost would make it impossible to slide.

S13 rear ends are 1540mm wide (just off the top of my head) compaired to the micra's of 1420mm disk to disk + S13 cradles are rather large and bulky as well. you have to relocate the fule tank somewhere else.
you can only take out 15mm from the upper/lower arms (each side) before you need custom drive shafts (shorter lower control arms are better for grip when car squats down in a slide under power)

i had the thought to just use a T serise diff out of an AE86 (1400mm wide) and modify the 5 link set up to suit. run a 13b or F6A turbo 660cc out of a kei car to minise cutting the fire wall and hopefully a small enough gearbox to negate the need for a new tunnel (in a attempt to keep it road legal, altho changing a cars finial drive from front to rear might be asking abit much)

i think its FF too, especially given as its going round with two other FF's the eg and the Odyssey truck (althouhg there was those videos of the eg civic on s2000 rwd running gear recently!), and not playing with the others. also he comes round the previous corner straight and on the power to gain speed.

and like xsoarerx said there are some FF ones compeating in MSC

xsoarex thanks for the input. its gonna be a drift car only so cutting firewall and tunnel doesn't bother me and its gonna be caged so any structural part like the firewall we cut isn't going to cause any problems.
the SR20's got a pretty skinny box so we might mot have to cut and weld too much but it is going to need a driveshaft tunnel. i think i can get a Hilux diff cut to suit, and we all kno how unbreakable Hilux stuff is.
i want to keep the donor suspension geometry as close to original/optimal as possible so if we do graft a nissan IRS into it i'll just move bodywork around to suit. hence my enthusiasm to do a MG Metro 6R4 looking micra.

I have found about 5 different 4wd Micra K11's online most in japan and some in Russia, but all of them are with an CVT automatic. Perhaps its posible to install a manual box.

im pretty sure the 4wd k11's are the same as the cubes and have electric driven wheels so technically not a proper 4wd. think its been talked about on here before.

i reckon a pretty good idea and ive seen it done before was... start with something that was all ready FR cut the top off and shorten the chassie to suit the micra shell... technically not a micra, but seeing tho theres no real 4wd micra's like a WRX where you just cut the center differental out it makes alot of sense to.

one i saw was a starlet? ep71 i think cut at the sills off the orginial floor pan grafted onto a shortened volvo floor pan. pretty amazing build which after looking at other FF to FR builds makes life alot easyer.

theres a suzuki swift on RedlineGTI.com? that was converet to FR using the 1.6 suzuki motor, turboed, custom bell housing, BMW E30 rear end, full sub frame made from scratch, pretty much the whole floor pan cut out anyway to fit, etc...

if i was going to go full hog i'd prob start with a silvia and shorten to suit. but the reasions why i sugested T serise diff, rotor etc... is you def need something small and light weight to continue the theam of the car.

ya know, not very powerful but very light so its quick anyway. 150odd hp and it would slide for sure if you did your best to keep it around 800kgs.
