Micra Brake Light Problem

Hi,

My Micra is coming up for its MOT and I have a problem with the high mounted stop light. When the front lights are off it switches on and off with the 2 red rear lights lower down. However when the front lights are on it remains on like the 2 other lights lower down and just becomes "brighter" when the brake pedal is depressed. I would be very grateful if anyone could help me diagnose this. I am also wondering will this cause me to fail my MOT?

hmm not sure if its fail or not. you could just take it off for mot to be sure and put it back on again afterwards if you cant find a solution.

Yes, you will fail your MOT. You have a wiring fault, as it is shorting out somewhere along the line. I would check all of the earths for the back lights, and clean them up with sand paper.

check both of your rear lower brake lights have twin filament bulbs and not single filament (normal problem).
