Micra 1.2 upper sump.

Hello.
Can anyone tell me for sure if you need to remove an automatic gearbox to remove the engine upper sump?
It's a 1.2 micra k12 2003.
I've searched about but options differ..
Thankyou

The Haynes manual may cover some info regarding automatic transmission.
Do you have one if not you should start here.

Manual says to remove bolts for transmission to oil pan.

It's kind of like when you have to remove the alternator just to remove the manifold it's a nissan thing lucky you don't have to remove the engine as well. ?
If you can see another way that save you alot of time and effort that is safe go for that option.
What reason are you removing the upper sump?

I guess the manual boxes are different so you have to take them off first? I got P0340 and crap idle when cold.. if I could remove the crank oil seal and the crank sprocket through the hole in the timing cover then I'd try feeding the chain through that way then put the sprocket on.. bloody chains..
