Oh well another icon of the British car industry has gone.
Now owned by a Chinese company.
I agree with globalisation in most cases but seems very strange to see this sort of thing happening.

Well I used to own a MG TF 1500. Along came the MGA then the MGB and it was all down hill from there. Yes pity as the early MGBs were a nice shape but as Mychael says all show and not much go.Ahh !! what could have been.
Goes to prove when Govts.take over a business and try to run it it all goes belly up. Bureaucrats get in the way.

MGA's were a pretty shape. I quite like them but underpowered.
MG was BMC, Triumph was Standard Vanguard Triumph. Mortal enemies in the race/rally arena of the 50's.

Then they all got taken over by British Leyland. My TR (had to mention it somewhere) pre-dates the takeover era.

A bit of Trivia, as I understand it BMW still own the Triumph name, there has been rumour of the name appearing again.

Personally I'd never buy one as it would be an antithisis to own a British named car made by Germans. "It just wouldn't be proper Godfrey".

So true Mychael.
Bit like driving a new Mini ( BMW) or a Jag. ( Ford)
Cars are loosing their character and gee first car I owned was the MG TF 1500 and man that was a handful but at least you really learnt how to drive!!( or die quickly)
Cars were not forgiving in those days.

Ahh yeh,i think i saw this few weeks ago in the news, some people bought home their new MG's or the "XXXX" supercar.(forgot the name but its as fast as a ferrari 360 or similar.....distribute by MG here) for half price in the big auction. Oh well.......its all about money/business management this days, not really the car......

Yes "2" there was a big sell-up of the surplus MG stock. THey tried to get on the bandwagon of "buy the last MG ever made". Of course the last "real" Mg ever made was in the 40's before the BMC conglomerate.

Dave, your right, cars were cars then , not just oversized computer games, there were cables and rods between you and the mechanical bits, not wires and software/servo's like today.

No electronics to save your arse if you "overcooked" on a bend or slippery road.

It's scary when you think that people still manage to prang the modern stuff.Give them an old car and they'd be saver, would not know how to start it or get it into gear with a non-syncto box.. lol.
